I need a plate made up for my new winch so it can sit between the frame rails, similar to the factory 80 series set up. Suggestions in Kelowna for this?

Thanks!

Like a behind the stock bumper kind of set-up?

Yeah, a plate for it to sit on between the frame rails. I've got a jdm bush bumper but it's not designed to support a winch.

Does the JDM bumper have enough strength to mount the fairlead, the problem with mounting the winch behind the stock bumper and between the frame horns is any kind of pull that is not directly in front of you will destroy the stock bumper....unless you cut a barndoor size hole in front bumper or add another plate for the fairlead right on the front of the frame horns.

No way to mount the winch in the JDM bumper, or is it one of those light weight aluminium jobbers?

It is aluminum and already has a hole cut to run the cable through. I'm quite certain it was designed to work with the factory winch. The problem is there that the hole is high because the factory Aisin winch was a top feed unlike most out there, including the Superwinch that I bought. I am hopeful that the bumper is strong enough if I plate the old hole and cut a new one lower and bolt on the fairlead. I was thinking I'd keep the aluminum bumper to save some weight over the front end but maybe it isn't worth all the hassle?

I'd get one of Jason's (cruisin offroad) bumpers but it's not in the finances at the moment. A used ARB would be ideal but not likely to happen.

Altar Metal did all the folding for my metal work based on my design. Welding done be me at home

Pay cash, be patient and you will get good work from them. They also do full finish fabrication. I've heard good things about Grizzley too but Altar is the less expensive of all the places here in Kelowna that I have had quote me.

I've seen lots of Mig setups go for $300-500. For that price and materials, you can build yourself really nice bumper and pick up some great skills and still be further ahead on the cost of an ARB or Jason unit.

My son is a c ticket welder at Grizzley. Im sure if you doubt your skills he would be able to weld up your design. He hasn't done a lot of fab as he is just starting out (18 years old) but he sure can weld great.

Hmm...maybe I'll have to poke around a bit in town for a full bumper.

Making another bumper fit would not be that complicated, particularly with a low-profile winch (most are designed for this anyhow)

I would take one that is wider than you need over one that is too narrow, easier to take a few inches out than add it in. So keep your eyes open for domestic (Chev, Ford ...etc. ) ARBs also.
