Have had the nose to the grind and its starting to pay off. The old joys refilled my being after deciding to pull this abandoned cruiser out of the shop. Think I picked it up somewhere in Florida back in 2020 maybe 2018.
- It ran
- It drove
- back then it was put away wet
I rented a uhaul trailer and towed it back to Missouri, and it wouldn't start so into storage it goes to collect dust for a number of years. Still put away wet.
Last week something hidden deep down inside of me said "rip it out of the shop". So I brought in a loader and inched it out. Got it home. For some reason there has been a fusable link in my junk drawer for the last 5 years. I swapped that in and it started right up. Now my joy has increased significantly... I drive it around the neighborhood and it feels like the brakes are locked up.
Got some crap oil, 5-30, conventional at napa for $30 bucks and did an oil change, skipped the filter... but I also picked up some great oil for when its flushed after 200 or so miles, then I'll throw in the new filter too.
After a once over find a ton of pm that needs done
- replace all rad hoses
- coolant flush needed
- Heater core has been bypassed, and there is water on the pass floorboard and it hasn't rained since I took it out of the barn.
- Rear disc brake drums needed
- Front disk brake drums needed
- Calipers need rebuild (all 4)
- Pinion seal is leaking badly
- tailights worked, but now don't work
- drivers mirror broken (replaced with a spare i had)
- Wiper blades had no blades (replace)
- Power steering pump is leaking like a siv
- Won't come out of park without a screw driver, think it may be because of taillights?
- both seats need gears replaced (ordered)
It was dirty so it was taken through the wash and some of the trim pieces fell off and the sunroof leaked *dry seals, but it looks better.
This is really exciting for me to start wrenching again. It will get the 4x4 labs stuff I ordered from luke in 2020, front bumper, rear, sliders. Maybe a nice heads up display, back up camera and other goodies. There is a pile of a few 80's parts that I parted out to pull from and that makes me excited to, just to organize it and see what I have to help. I went to toyotapartsdeal . com and to Partsouq .com and found that partsouq is cheaper... is there a new place everyone orders from?
