This past Sunday, My buddy, his wife and I went on a leisurely Sunday drive to Joshua Tree's Black Eagle Road. Black Eagle Road begins about 6.5 miles north of the Cottonwood Visitor Center, this dead-end dirt road runs along the edge of Pinto Basin, crosses several dry washes, and then winds up through canyons in the Eagle Mountains. The first 9 + miles of the road are within the park boundary. Around the 12th mile there is a large rock blocking the trail that prevented u from driving to the mines. At this point you in desert wilderness, BLM land. Since we could not get to the mines, we made the return trip back and ended up doing a bit of rock climbing. the rock formations are right off the paved road close to the Cottonwood Entrance.
