When I purchased my BJ44 the original owner had stickers and bolt-on "flare" everywhere. I removed it all including window tint, oh s*** bars, and air fresheners. In the process there were two clips on the side of the A/C unit at the passengers knees (right side drive so left side). I realized these clips were for a road flare required by Japanese law. The flare was missing or I never would have removed in the first place.
I first sourced a flare at: JDM Slim Type Road Flare - https://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/jdm/jdm-slim-type-road-flare/
It was $19 shipped. I wanted one with Japanese writing to be most original. Etsy sells Jake ones with plastic adhesive holders.
I then searched high and low for original clips. I found the part number but no one makes them. I found a perfect solution on Amazon that looks original and holds the flare very secure. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CQR35FV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_LzCsNFsOux9UR
It did take a 90-degree screwdriver (Klein brand) to install.
I'm stoked. Fun project and hope this helps someone.
Hope this
