I have a JDM gray market 100 series (1998, 4.7L V8, 4 speed A/T) with cruise control. Unfortunately, the cruise control is virtually useless in the U.S. because it appears to only allow max speed setting around 50 MPH.

Does anyone on MUD know if 1) the JDM cruise control can be adapted or (more likely) 2) replaced with the U.S. spec cruise control module? The drivetrain appears to otherwise be identical to the U.S.-spec 100 series, so I'm wondering if a U.S. cruise control module could be used to allow setting to (ahem) more appropriate U.S. highway speeds.

Thoughts?

I'm about to do this tomorrow, I'll let you know if it works
So this didn't work because my 1998 JDM doesn't have the immobilizer module. The truck turns over but won't start, I confirmed in techstream that there is an immobilizer error. I ordered the immobilizer parts (89783-60050 and 89782-33020), but I'll also have to run the wires to the ECU as those pins (E12,E13,E14) are not present on my harness.

I can't say this is worth if just for cruise control, but it is nice to have an immobilizer and hopefully it would make my car harder to steal.

How did you manage to connect to TechStream on a JDM LC? I have had zero luck with mine, and it just shows this:

My Techstream Ver 9.30.002 connects to my JDM ECU - 89661-60630 on my 1998 Hundy. But the immobilizer issue I mentioned above is when I plug in the US Market ECU - 89661 60610.

I got the immobilizer amplifier and ring plugged in to the US ECU but it still won't recognize it. I confirmed my connections according to the Electrical diagram so I'm not sure why its not working.

I may just pull the plug, I'm almost $400 in parts with nothing to show for it.

Since I'm running into issues with the immobilizer, I'm going to see if @LexusV8 Engines can just remove the immobilizer from the US market 89661-60610 ECU. I think there are just too many wiring and component module differences in the US model and the immobilizer troubleshooting guide in the service manual references wires that are absent in my JDM truck. I don't want a mess of added wiring behind the dash.

If the immobilizer can be removed from the ECU board I should be good to have an unrestricted ECU that allows cruise control at US highway speeds and I also plan to add a Scan Gauge 2 which my JDM ECU won't connect to.
