Hello Everyone,

Long story short, I'm looking to learn more about the J200 to use for family adventures that include exploring the trails throughout the western US mountain states. We're a 1 car family and we live in the mountains where quick overnighters on local trails are common. Additionally we've begun a many years long adventure of catching all the North American Trout/Salmon/Char which will have us trekking all over the country and probably into Canada along our our path.

Part of me wants to start with a J100 and just build it the way that works best for us, and another part says we would be better served by a more modern J200 for safety and comfort. So, at the moment, I'm learning as much as I can about the changes that Toyota has done to the J200 over the years and would love any additional info you might provide. A 2016 is my top price point so I'm not looking into anything newer.

I used the following sites to gather the information below:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Land_Cruiser#J200_(2007–present)
https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2018-toyota-land-cruiser-review-one-week/
https://www.autoevolution.com/cars/...ota-land-cruiser-200-v8-2011-46-v8-5at-318-hp

2008 Changes over J100 include
Smart Entry
Smart Start
4-zone climate control
10 airbags
Stronger and lighter frame
CRAWL
Downhill Assist Control
Multi-terrain anti-lock braking system
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), allows for greater wheel articulation
An optional rear-view camera
Leather seats are available in full option
"5.7 L 3UR-FE V8 petrol engine producing 284 kW (386 PS; 381 hp)
and 544 N⋅m (401 lb⋅ft) of torque channeled through a six-speed
automatic - there's disagreement here - another article says that 2007
2011 had a 5 speed"

2011
"facelift - new headlights, foglights, bumper, and grille - rear end got redesigned
stop lights - ide profile was refreshed using new protective plastic moldings"
redesigned interior

2013
all previously optional safety and luxury options as standard
pushbutton start
HID headlights with beam level adjustment
a power moonroof
automatic rain sensing windshield wipers
heated and ventilated (perforated leather) front and only heated rear seats
a rear-seat DVD entertainment system
bluetooth
rearview camera with parking sensors
navigation system
HD radio and Entune
"Multi-terrain Select system (Rock, Rock & Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock,
and Mud & Sand)"

2015
interior/exerior redesign
"technology designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions and, under
certain circumstances, help protect pedestrians in a collision"
"Safety Sense-P system includes Frontal Collision Avoidance, at speeds below
24 mph (including pedestrian protection); Frontal Collision Mitigation (also for
speeds below 24 mph); Lane Departure Alert; Auto High Beams and Dynamic
Radar Cruise Control"

2016
8-speed transmission

2016 also added new safety features that include a front collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection, as well as blind spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems. The Entune infotainment system was updated with Siri Eyes Free technology, a Qi wireless phone charger and a dual-screen rear-seat video entertainment system.

200s had a six speed tranny from 08-15; the first facelift occurred for the 2013 model year, until 2015, then another facelift for MY 2016, when they went to 8 speed tranny. Also, there was no 2012 model year LC in the US.

I bought a first generation 200 three years ago and planned on keeping it for a long time, but after 3 years decided I wanted the options of the second gen model. Mostly for the updated NAV/bluetooth/audio streaming, xenon headlights and ventilated seats. I also really like the radar cruise, once you get used to it. The backup cam and extra cameras on the side mirrors looking down and back/front are nice, too.

I'd get a '13-15 TLC if I were you.
