It's a sad day when someone torches a 40!

Some of you, who know me, know I'm a Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers friend/fan. Well I feel for Roger right now as his '72 Fj40 was torched in his north-east valley driveway last week. He has had it for many, many years and it has taken him many places south of the border. It also appeared in their first MTV video "Banditos" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfZbFh7qlCQ when they were known as The Refreshments. It's just sad to see something like this happen to such a rig. He says he plans to rebuild it and go bio-diesel, and I've offered our club as a local resource if he needs it.

I am a huge Roger Clyne and the peacemakers fan but I had no idea he was a cruiser owner! He just went way up in my book!!

Let him know I feel for him and although I do not have much to offer I wil help anyway I can!

What the heck happened? Accident or arson?

Ed

ARSON!

There were a few other vehicles on his street that suffered the same plight. I'm sorry it wasn't last week either, it was the week before last on a Thursday night. My bad for not getting the facts straight first.

fj40frk- He also has an '84 fj60 as well, that is in REALLY good condition he said. He has been a cruiser head for sometime now. I was laughing with him down in Mexico, about how my 62's drive train had just locked up on me and caused me to miss the show. He gave me some grief for that, but it was all in fun. I knew he still had the 40 then, but didn't know he had the 60 until he mentioned it. He said he has spent a few days & nights under them both, but wouldn't trade either of them 'cause they get him to and from anywhere he wants to go. I knew the 40 held a lot of sentimental value to him, as he and his best friend Mike, who died of cystic fibrosis, used to take it everywhere. Most of his music is about those times with Mike and their adventures in his blue fj40 he called "Bess" while Mike was alive and a couple of songs like "Nada" after Mike had died.

I didn't know the Refreshments were still around. I used to see them at Long Wong's in Tempe in the early 90's.

MoGas- Those were some fun times, huh? Actually the band line up has changed since those days, Buddy and Brian are no longer with him. After Mercury Records in "97-'98 exercised their rights not to resign them, Roger & PH came back to PHX and joined up with Scotty (Gin Blossoms) Johnson & formed The Peacemakers along with Steve (Dead Hot Workshop) Larson and Danny White. Danny & Scotty have since left the band and Nick (Gloritone) Scropos joined as their bass player. You can check them out here: azpeacemakers.com

D'Animal Is it too roasted to rebuild?

D'Animal - splitshot is correct. Haven't seen it yet, but I do know he has kidded about wanting to keep the flame scorching design in the capri blue paint.

splitshot- Aparrently it's not....

That totally bites..... I've got a set of jump seats if he needs them.

splitshot- I'll pass that along. What are you thinking in terms of a price?

As I get more info I will let you all know.

Very cool splitshot!

He called me Saturday afternoon from the road, in Wisconsin, before a gig. We spoke for about 20 minutes, and he is SOOO appreciative and grateful for the offering of the club as a resource to help him. He had no idea CSC even existed in his own backyard and he is looking forward to meeting up with you guys. He also had a gracious thank you for any thing we can do to help him get "Bess" back on the road.

He said the rig took damage from the dash back. I haven't seen it yet, so I can't really say what all it needs. He did say something about wiring and the dash, but I'll know more when he gets back with me on this.

Hey, he puts out good music, AND he's a cruiserhead, how could I not help out.(I'm pretty attached to my 40, hope they find out who did it).
And I hope it's not in as bad of shape as it sounds.

splitshot- I agree, it will be great to help him out. He does a ton of very cool things for a vast majority of people. I think the thing that impresses me with him is the fact that he is very down to earth and is not full of himself, as most people could be in his place. He really is just a regular suburban family guy who likes to hang out and have a few cold ones. Anyway, he said he is looking forward to meeting, hanging out, wrenching, and drinking some Tecate with us.

Tecate??

Thats funny, look at whats in my project thinkin' chair.

I've been a friend of Tecate for some time.

Hey all,

I know this is an old thread, but it looks like Senor Clyne is ready to do this. He has been in contact with me over the past few weeks and he and his wife are ready to get Bess up and running. He has graciously offered to anyone who helps in this effort, to get her back on the road, an all inclusive VIP/Backstage pass at their upcoming Rocky Point show the weekend of June 6th. It includes all the tequila, cerveza and tacos you can down. Here is the copy of an email he sent a few weeks ago.

Daryl,

Bueno! Perhaps we could get together and visit my 40 at the shop where she's languishing and begin a basic triage list of what it'll take to get her rolling. Remember, she was torched in driveway; we got the fire out before the tank blew up and hopefully the engine is OK, but all the seats burned up, the glass broke, and the gauges, the dash, the rubber on the pedals, the seatbelts, etc, all went up in flames (¡Que lastima!). If I recall correctly, the tires burned up, too. She's an ugly mess, but hopefully everything in front of the firewall is OK. I'm considering NOT repainting her; the fire damage actually looks pretty cool.

I leave for a biz trip to Mexico tomorrow morning, will return on Tuesday and have to be back on tour on Wednesday night, so getting together before then probably won't happen, but I'll have a few (4) days between tours at the end of April. Perhaps we could get together then? And/or if you or any in the Cruiser Club wish to just go giver her a quick look-over before then, I can give the the address of the shop where she is. My wife is actually really excited about the possibility of getting our 40 ("Bess") back up and rolling. She's said she'll happily meet any wrenchers at the shop, should any enlist in the project.

I can offer this: anyone who helps me get her up and running will be on our VIP list, backstage in Mexico and I'll throw in as much tequila, tacos, and cervezas as it'll take to keep the troops happy.

Gracias and stay in touch,
Roger

So, if anyone is interested or has any old parts laying around that they would like to donate to a good cause and for good cruiser karma, please contact me. I plan to try and get by the shop where Bess is at to take a look at the carnage at some point this week. I will post up needs as I have them. Interested parties, get your passports in order and PM me and I will contact you with info.

Thanks,

Daryl

Be sure to post pic as well as a list of what is needed.

I have more than a truckload of stuff for FJ 40's in my shop just laying around. Most of it is from a 1974 like the gauge cluster, dash gibblets, etc.

Are you guys getting together and doing this as a club wrenching weekend?

And I'll be happy to put in some wrench time as needed as I have not been doing anything for the most part and miss wrenching on my truck ( in an apt. now) Plus I have not come out to help at all and really want to.

D'Animal & klittlefield,

Thanks for the quick responses and offers. I will post pics and get the list together hopefully this week. Just depends on their schedule and mine. As soon as I know, I'll post up.

Also, not sure on the whole wrenching thing. I'm going to talk with him about that too. We are kinda at the mercy of the shop where it is as to access times. I'm going to see if we can get it moved, possibly, so it becomes more accessable. So it could be a wrench day somewhere, just don't have that info yet.
