After a year in pieces the 79 lives! I cranked it up tonight and I'm still having the same problem I had the last (and only) time I drove it. It won't idle. If I give it a lot of choke or a lot of gas it will run but otherwise it dies. It's as if the primary isn't working. I pulled the top off the carb to adjust the float bowl level but that didn't help. I don't have an engine manual so I don't have any info on reworking the carb. Can anyone loan me an engine manual or give me an idea what would make it act like this. If I can solve this problem I'll drive it to the April meeting. The only thing I have left to do is mount the fenders, aprons, grill, and hood but that won't take long. I still need to rebuild both ends of the front axle but that won't keep me from driving it so it can wait.

Somebody help.

p.s. I'm headed to Puerto Rico in the morning and don't know if I'll be able to check the forum or not. I'll return Thursday night so if anyone has material that may help me out leave a phone number or call and leave a message on my office phone (933-2940)and I'll get in touch Friday to arrange a handoff. If you're driving around Madison and want to drop it off at the house Cathey will watch over it until I return. Thanks in advance for anything that anyone can provide that will get me on the road.
nearly done.webp

sounds like what happened with my 40. I have a holley carb on mine but i cleaned it out a few times with carb spray and it is running like a dream now. Before i would come to a stop at a stop sign and the engine would always die. I increased my idle speed a little and kept cleaning it out. Now I haven't had to clean it in a month or two and have been driving it more than ever. Looks like your engine is pretty pretty clean though...
can't wait to see that thing in action.

I second Jim Chenowith, sent my carb to him and never had trouble since then
