Many of y'all know that my wife's career took a dramatic turn about a year ago. She went from full-time research trying to cure breast cancer to owning a gift store. Long story made short the hospital she worked at laid off three full labs of staff, PhD researchers (including my wife), support, admin, everyone. Instead of waiting on another job my wife made one.

Now, about once a month a lady from either the IRS or the SC Dept of Revenue (I'm not sure which) comes in to chat with my wife and try to help her figure out ways to hire new employees. The lady is always nice, helpful, knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to.

The same lady came in yesterday but didn't have her regular 'business' appearance, that is she browsed around the store and appeared to be shopping more than working. After chatting for a minute the lady asked if my wife was hiring and my wife said no. Then my wife asked if the lady was shopping for herself (there for pleasure) or working. The lady said basically "Pleasure, I was asking about a job because I'm getting laid off."

So, with all the money being pumped into the government, the powers that be lay off the lady that is working with small business owners to help them with basically everything they need to empower them to hire new employees. Of course there is probably always more to the story, but that's what we know.

Thanks for sharing. It sucks for her, but is pretty representative of our government (republicans and democrats alike)

Co. i work for almost got me last feb. My 4th child was born with congenital heart failure and i immediately went on fmla.I was gone 3wks vacation and 90 days. When i came back business was so busy they couldnt touch me. My problem with the story is that we are hiring temps to permanent as we speak but in stead of hiring some of the former employees that we had that are more than qualified for the job we are hiring new people with little to no experience. Then upper management gets upset cause i rape them in overtime because the staff we currently have can not keep up with demand. U can't win.
