IPOD Cassette Adapter - wear on tape drive?

I recently bought a cassette adapter to listen to programs downloaded via my IPOD. Since the 02 100 does not have a hardwired IPOD connection, I tried using an FM transmitter first, but this did not provide very good reception in the NYC Metro area (FM band too crowded). So next I picked up a cassette adapter, which plays whatever is on the IPOD via the cassette deck. As a result of this I am using my cassette deck a WHOLE LOT more than I ever did before, and am wondering if this could damage the heads of the tape deck? It does not seem likely since there is no tape moving, but it sure would be be a pain to have to replace the $5000+ navigation unit with attached tape deck.

don't know the specs of the adapter, but I imagine it's working through contact with the magnetic reading head, in which case there is no moving part likely, and I would think your tape unit would likely wear much less than if you were using tapes.

Also, if something were to go wrong with the tape drive, is it not likely that this would not affect the rest of the Nav Sys?

I would not hesitate to do it.

Actually, I did this for a year and used it every day. No problems.

On a different note, I thought that was one of the wierdest things to still see in the landcruiser or any vehicle. Plus, it's huge! They should hide that and bring out the dvd changer from the console.

When using a cassette adapter the mechanism's motor still drives the capstan which turns the pinch roller. It's the same wear as if you're playing an actual cassette....but so what. IF the cassette mechanism and/or motor wears out, will you ever actually play a real cassette anyway? Yer good!

Note that this method offers lower sound quality compared to a direct link. It degrades the sound to "cassette-grade" fidelity.
