Ok guys. What might you say are it’s weak points?

Honestly so far I’d say it’s pretty damn solid. Granted I haven’t used it yet, just opened it up a few times. It is a pain to set up as high as it is on my 80 but I will say every time I’ve opened it it gets a little easier and a small step ladder makes all the difference. I’ve been really impressed with how well it seems to be put together and the quality of the materials seem pretty good as well.

As far as weak points go I’d say it’s biggest one is the fact it’s a RTT. Just like any other one it has lots of opportunities for things to go wrong. Lots of zippers that could bust and rope and bolt that could fail at some point. They are not super simple by nature like most modern ground tents.

The only thing i dont like is the fact that i lost my roof rack space for all the fire wood and all other stuff that i used to put up on the roof. Other than that it takes 10 to 15 min to set and the mattress is comfortable. I think more than the air one.

The tent on my 80 is 7’11” high. That’s up there. I worry that I’ll scrub a tree branch or low flying airplane and punch a hole in the NLA cover.

My Bowfin rack has a neat little cutout on the wind deflector that is meant for a light bar. It turns out that that little cutout allows 75mph wind to get under the tent and whistle like a tornado blowing through a trailer park. The sound is deafening. I rigged up a plastic air dam extension to fix the issue but it looks like Fido’s rectum. The good thing is that I won’t be needing any T slot hardware for tie downs and other cool attachments because I can’t put anything else up there anyway.

Believe it or not, I'm not going there. Not posting any memes, either. :rimshot:
You mean I lobbed that beach ball out here for nothing? Alrighty then.

The 9011 wider than the 9010 for about 10”. The changing room goes on the same slot that the weather cover goes in and zips all the way around it. The dimention that you are looking for is half of the floor plus the ladder canopy by the Width of the tent. My changing room barely make it.

@sleepycruiser

Again, not the same brand, but as you note, they are all pretty much the same. Should give you an idea of where to start.

Someone on the GXOR Facebook page is pretty confident that the Smittybilt XL will work....but hasn’t tried it. I emailed Tepui to see if they had one but haven’t heard back.

Also, someone may have posted this earlier....but it shows taking out of the box and setting up a Tepui....probably the same or very similar:

@crikeymike Do you think this ladder extension will work on a Mombasa RTT?
Now that I've seen that the other guy bought one and it does work, then I'll say YES, it will work just fine. hahahahah

Ok. I got it put together.

I am going to have mine deploy off the side. The instructions say to use 4 bolts and nuts to attach the mount rails to the base....I used 6....

A few questions. I did not have the ladder angle support brackets. I am assuming this is an option?

Also, in the Tepui video there are straps to hold the ladder tight against the tent base....I found a few straps on the inside of the RTT that I used for this....fit loose though.....maybe the straps I used aren’t for the ladder? I am going to vacuum it out tomorrow and get all of the metal shavings out of it....put on the weather cover and see if I can get it mounted solo.

Of course I haven’t opened up the long green bag yet....

Seems to be pretty thick....and hot as hell. There is a reason Tepui has the Ayers...lol. But for the price I feel great so far. And with the rain fly on it....it is super dark on the inside...which could be great for camping.

I’d use the ladder support brackets. They provide extra support along the unfolded side of the tent. Without them the whole floor hanging off the side of the truck is only supported by the width of the ladder only. There is too much free hanging out from each side of the ladder without them.

Do they come with it?

Edit: Note to self....check the green bag!

So wish I could have got in on this. Great brand of tent.

I'm starting to lean more towards a RTT. Great for and easy to explore with and not too hard to take off if running harder trails and have a safe campsite to leave it at like at the group site in Uwharrie.
