First camping trip in the RTT this weekend and I have to say I really couldn’t be happier with it. After a couple trial runs setting it up and “learning” it setup was a breeze and after the pointers about the interior bungees take down was MUCH easier and quicker. I slept fine in it although I will probably use a Thermarest on top of the mattress next time. The boys loved it. My wife and I and both boys and we had plenty of room in it and it felt really stable. Totally happy with it and ready to use it again.

Why a thermarest?

Why a thermarest?

Mainly because I’m a side sleeper. Usually unless I’m in an actual bed the weight of my own overweight body begins crushing myself LOL. Honestly the mattress in the tent is actually pretty good, but after a couple hours of sleeping on my side with it I could really feel the hard floor of the tent. Next time I’ll double up.

Looks rad! What's the height to the bottom of the tent to the ground? Also - your truck has ome heavies, correct?

Dude it’s way up there. 7’1” to the bottom of the tent. 8’2” to the top of the cover when it’s all closed up.

@S4Cruiser im running heavy fronts and medium rears. Gonna go heavy rears also eventually.

Practiced a little bit over the weekend with putting up and taking down the RTT. I got it down to around 30 minutes up and 30 minutes down. This was by myself with no assistance. I think I can improve on that some more. I'll get more practice at Hurricane Creek. Just like @fj40z, my tent was at 8'2". That's tall! It would not fit into my 8' garage opening. My solution was to remove the bottom section of ladder and stow it inside the folded tent under the mattress. That knocks 3" off the overall height. The ladder just slides on and off so it's not much trouble to do. I picked up one of these fans to hang from the ridge pole inside. It makes things a lot more comfy inside. Runs on 4 "D" batteries.

So the part of the ladder that actually attaches to the bottom of the RTT you are leaving on, but sliding the bottom portion off?

I wonder if that will help me get into the garage. I can’t get into the garage either.

You got it.

You need the last section of ladder for leverage to fold up the tent, but once it is closed, pull the pins on the last section and slide it off. If you look at the hinge side of the closed tent, there is really nothing there but a big opening. All you see is the doubled thickness of the mattress. Wedge the last piece of ladder under the mattress between the mattress and the hard floor. That will keep it from moving around. That's also where I keep my tension poles and stakes, under the mattress. The good thing about keeping all that stuff there is that when you get ready to use the tent and zip off the cover, the stakes, tension rods and ladder are the first thing you see. Pull the ladder out. Slide it on and unfold everything. That's how I've been doing it. The only real downside is that with the last piece of ladder unattached, the cover fits a little looser than it would otherwise. It's not bad though. Barely noticeable.

@roadstr6 are you able to get by with the length of the ladder or is it a little short?

Once you go through setting it up a few more times you’ll knock off at least another 10 minutes off setup and takedown times.

Out of the box it was a couple of inches short. I had to re-drill the holes for the ladder pins a few inches lower. It works fine but I'm sure it stresses the ladder a little more with a smaller connection point between the two sections. I noticed that you have the ladder extension which is the best way to do it. My way does work but it's not ideal.

LOL I actually think your way works best and I think I’m going to do exactly what you did. The ladder on mine can’t be more than 2” short. I don’t think that little bit will stress it enough to make that much of a difference. The ladder extension works but it adds a couple of inches to the folded up height.

Going to try to get mine on the roof today. So the poles all have to be taken down before putting it back up?

Amazon Prime day....I am going to try to find some good solar LED lights.
The tension rods have to come out to fold it up. Helpful hint: Install the rods from inside the tent. Unzip Windows and screens. Lean out. Insert rods into base at 45 degree angle. Grab flap. Bend rod and insert into flap. I did these rods from the outside once and it’s a pain.

I used this tent during the weekend and it pass every test

Comfort test. Approved, kids and I slept like babies.
Dry test. Approved, two nights of hard rain and we were dry after all
Set up test. Approved, no as bad as i thought it could be.

The changing room “ even when it is not the exact one for my tent” made it easy to change the kids without making a mess inside the tent.

Over all it is a 8. Not a 10 because i will not take it to Logans run since i dont want to take it down to go wheeling.

Thanks again

Good to hear. What brand is the changing room? Any pictures?

He got the Mombasa changing room...it was for a different size RTT hoping it would work out...and it seems it did.

Can anyone think of a reason why this wouldn’t work to mount the RTT to on a 5x8 utility trailer? I probably wouldn’t use the clamps and would just drill into the feet and bolt the racks down to the trailer sides. Looks beefy and the fabricator hasn’t responded back to my questions about adding wheels so I am going it alone.

If there is a better product, I am all ears.

Or perhaps this one:
Ultra-Tow 4-Post Utility Truck Rack — 800-Lb. Capacity, Steel | Northern Tool + Equipment

Edit: I like the look of the one from Northerm Tool....and I think I can adjust the load brackets to face down and attach stuff under the RTT. Found a coupon for $20 and free shipping as well......
