According to the stealership- they need to be replaced because, according to them they are loose.
After 70,000kms - not sure I understand loose? Either they are fine or catastrophic failure/broken and must be replaced.
They did not seem to suggest that degree of urgency. Will have to sort out with them what exactly they did/tested to determine this diagnosis.

Any suggestions from the experts?

Also - where to purchase replacements (other than the stealership) or any other upgrades (other than All pro)?

Thx

if you have play in your steering it is probably gone... easy way to test is to jack the front of your truck up and try moving the tires left and right and feel for play. This is vary common and as far as I know the Stealership is the only place to get the part

I agree and to add to the above post, I'd suggest looking at All-Pro's option to replace the stock units with their heavy duty links. However, I don't know that it is very common, just depends on how much stress you've put them under. I've run my rig pretty hard and just replaced mine with the HD units this summer. They weren't sloppy, I replaced mine to be proactive and got a good deal on the HD units.

If you are running larger tires and/or wheeling, it is a good idea. I've replaced mine and I was stunned at the thickness of the stock units at inner "ball". Its a 2.5 banana job, having some air tools will make it easier for sure...

Mine got "sloppy" with a capital S. I went in for an alignment last year and the guy had the FJ up on the rack. He showed me the movement in my wheel and said he could fix it if he had the part. I told him not to bother and then had ACC Toyota change them when I did my TC UCA upgrade a few weeks later. When Mike pulled my old ones off we looked at the pass side tie rod and the ball joint had about 1/16" play and the necked down shaft next to it was bent. Not cracked or broken, but bent. It's amazing that I did not have a catastrophic failure. The driver side is not sloppy, but not new either, and will serve as a trail spare. But the scary bent one is going in my collection of FU'd parts.

The saga gets better!
Pronounced shimmy in the steering wheel - which goes away if I turn the wheel more than 90 degrees. Comes back again if I turn again 90 degrees.
Two visits to the stealership and my rig is now worse off then before it went in!

Sorry to hear that. Sure sounds like you are in need of getting them replaced one way or another...
