Would you trust the dealer or get a separate PPI? 110k miles and serviced primarily at Lexus. From what I've heard, Lexus dealers will often unload their trade-ins if they aren't up to snuff. But I have also heard of Lexus dealers selling used Rx300s knowing the engines were ticking time bombs. What say you?

UPDATE: Too late, called the dealer and someone from out of town has flown in today to see the truck at 3pm EST, so likely will be gone. Damn...

to answer the question, I always get private PPI. Even with the CPO, they arent going to take a bore scope and look under the intake to see if it has a valley gasket leak, etc. I've looked at CPO and they either missed stuff, or they figure "meh, let the warranty fix it" or it isnt even on the inspection list.

I've scoured as many forums as I can looking for common issues and made sure to let my mechanic know to check those things if they were on his list.

Also, even with CPO, there are thing are arent covered. Things you wouldnt think are "wearable" items, or even something you'd think they'd sell on a dealership lot. I live in TN and every used car, irrespective of CPO warranty is sold "as is". I'll test every functionality/switch/etc. before I buy on my own and leave the real mechanical to my tech.

BTW - if you go to mylexus, you can "add" the vin to "my vehicles" and see all lexus dealership service records
