I'm up from Albuquerque for a few days participating in an emergency response exercise. Can anyone give me some suggestions for some good places to eat? I don't know how much free time I will have or exactly when I will be headed back to ABQ but might even be able to meet up with some fellow Cruiserheads if time allows.

Keep it local. Kannah Creek (pizza and beer). Bin 707 (best burger in town, great for lunch and nicer dinners). Innari's, a Palisade Bistro (my favorite place in the valley. Calamari and Small plate). 626 on Rood (higher end). No Coast or Suheiro (tie for best sushi in town. The former has a better atmosphere). Roosters in Clifton (best guilty pleasure, trashy atmosphere, great wings and the best fries in town!).

What's your timeframe? I'd come have a beer with you if we can work it out.

Il Bistro downtown at 4th and Main for very good Italian food (a good portion of it absent the overwhelming red sauce) in a great atmosphere. Moderate prices.

We completed our portion of the exercise on Thursday morning and flew out on DOE's 45-year-old DC-9 (a.k.a. DeathWing) about 5. I did get a couple hours to wander around Cabela's after lunch. I don't understand how GJ has enough population/tourism to support one but with Albuquerque metro approaching 1 million we don't have one.

I did get to try the Ale House on 12th which was a good burger. Also went to WW Peppers for lunch yesterday. I was not impressed but they sure were proud of their food.

I wish I could have tried a few more local spots but they had us working 12-hour days on Tuesday and Wednesday so we mostly just got fed by the caterer. Sorry my schedule didn't allow meeting up with anyone.

I really liked Grand Junction - the town, scenery, proximity to good wheeling/camping/fishing. Maybe I can retire there (in 20 years) or give up the Rat Race and live cheaply.
