Some time ago someone posted a response to another post saying that they had imported a 70 series Cruiser from France. Would that fellow care to drop me a pm please so that we can talk more?

Thanks,

Karl

got rust ?
What are you looking for ?

Are you sure about the rust issue on European Land Cruisers? In some locations in France there is not much rain. I have been there and seen a pailfull of Cruisers in great condition. In fact look here:

http://www.autokas.com/?page=2&th=5&bm=4&cm=40

The last time I was in France there was a dealership in a town in the southwest that had 2 bj74s in great shape. Yeah they were pricey, but they were left hand drive. I just drove a RHD. I got used to it soon enough, it still was annoying though. On top of that I am pretty sure my wife would never drive it b/c pf the RHD. Arguments in favor of RHD wont work here. This is a personal thing, and I am stubborn.

What am I looking for? A nice bj73 or bj74 that is LHD, std, and a minimum of rust. Lockers would be nice though not essential. Even a high miler would be ok.

Why? Have any contacts?

I'm sure about the rust issue, I live there huh :D
There were only a handful BJ74s ever imported, for racing purposes mainly. What you're looking at are probably BJ73s retrofitted with a 13BT from a BJ71.
LHD and manual are a given, but there were no factory locked ones imported and the rust will be likely there, hidden or not. Cruisers hold their value quite well around here too. I know of one original BJ74 that might be for sale, I'll ask.

Thanks not being offended by my questioning you on your suredness about the rust issue. After rereading my post I think I came across as a wee bit aggressive.

Interesting point about the importation of bj74s for racing. Most of the ones I saw were outfitted for racing. In my niavety I thoguht that this was the trend in europe.

Thanks for asking 'bout that 74 for me.

I frequently travel to the Montpellier area, and I have seen quite a number of nice cruisers there. Most of them 70 and 71 series, and some in great shape. Also some troopies, but I don't know which engine configuration they had. I guess it is the same as in the US, in the drier warmer climates they preserve better, in the alps they will rust away.
