That meskin's tryin to be tricky!!!!!!! Authentic Uni-Mog?PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

When I got the BJ it was only 19... (get your mind outta the gutter).

The RI said the paperwork is less if the truck is 25. I don't know which paperwork, but I suspect his bond would not be needed because the emission requirements are dropped. I paid an import duty based on the value of the truck at the port of entry (all handled by the RI). Then, I paid sales tax to get my Texas title based on the bill of sale. BTW, Texas insisted on keeping a copy of everything. Make copies of all your paperwork or Texas will take your originals.

Driving a RHD is easy. Clutch is still the left pedal and your left hand will figure it out.
Happy Trails! N

Thanks Nick!!

So I pay the RI fella a few hun'erd bucks to handle the paperwork. Money well spent. Got it.

Nick, Gary, or anybody else ...

Still lil' confused on the duty tax. Is that a percentage of value that I pay to somebody? Maybe to the Port of arrival to US? Then do I pay Texas a sales tax on top of that to get the title? Will it matter if vehicle arrives in port on Eastern seaboard or Texas port as far as duty/sales tax goes??

How strange is it to drive a RHD vehicle with manual tranny?? Shiftin' with the left hand has got to take some thinkin' each shift.

Butch ...

Would need to add A/C. Vintage-Air under dash unit comes to mind and there's ample interior room. I know you've chunked these on some cruisers. Reckon it's possible to install the compressor on a European diesel engine?? Appears to be room under the hood ... just need to hillbilly-fab up some sorta bracket and cypher out a belt??

Any and all information is greatly appreciated Folks.

P.S.: Bodean ... please go to another thread. :flipoff2:

That'd be great JP!

Ask 'em 'bout bringin' in a 25 year-old for'in vehicle into a US port.

:flamingo:

done sent an e-mail to one of my buddies!

I'll keep you post it!

I did get an answer from my buddy in customs.

...like I told you. USCustoms looks at make and model, vin# pictures and to be compliant w/ TX DOT.

the best bet it's to go to the port where it'll arrive and ask them.

If its over 25 years old, they will do a VIN inspection to make sure its what its supposed to be then release it. The RI would have all of this done before you get to port. You show up, show proof of ownership and drive it away. I took all 3 Pinzgauers to be Texas State inspected, then took my import paperwork, proof of insurance and the State inspection to the DMV in Parker County and they issued titles.

Thanks JP ...

for nothin'. :grinpimp:
