I recently downloaded IE7 from microsoft and I can't post on IH8MUD with any of the computers that are running IE7! The only reason I can post now is that I still have 2 machines that run Internet Explorer 6.0!

What's the deal? Is there a fix for this? Has anyone else had this problem?

I can open the "New Thread" window and I can type out letters but NONE of the feature (bold, italic, indent, link, etc.) or emoticon buttons work at all and no matter what I type it comes back with an error- usually "your message is too short..." Just to test it, I wrote this on a machine that won't let me post and copied the EXACT post and pasted it into IE6 on this machine and BAM! It works!

There must be some compatability issue between IH8MUD and IE7. Can someone email me (horitexan@gmail.com) with a fix so I can post here a bit more often?

Use IE 7 on both XP and Vista with no problems....turn off the pop-up blocker feature...Mud is full of pop-up links.

IE 7 test.... it works!!! ;)

x2 on the pop-up blocker.....

I use mozilla all the time with no problems. Opera works also very well...

Serious question:

Are you using a Netgear router?

Ok, I found the fix- well, my tech buddy did! The thing is, he was so stumped for so long that by the time he managed to get the editor to work properly, he'd done so many things that he wasn't 100% sure which of the things he did that fixed the problem! In the end, though, the problem was in pop-up blocking and/or McAfee's "Site Advisor" which comes bundled with McAfee's internet security package. For SOME reason, the buttons on the text editor and the smilies was being blocked from loading properly by some combination of pop-up blocking software. Since the issue was evident in two independent browsers (IE7 & Mozilla Firefox), it seems obvious that McAfee had something to do with it.

Here are the things we did that solved the problem:

1. Clear all your "cookies" and "temporary Internet Files!"
2. Disable McAfee's Pop-up blocking functions including the "Block Web Bugs" feature. This is done in the "Internet and Web browsing" section of McAfee's "Security Center" control panel. Click the "Advanced" button and de-select all three types of blocking.
3. Hold the 'ctrl' button down and click the "refresh" button- holding the 'ctrl' button down until the entire page has reloaded. Watch the images where the 'bold' "B", the 'italic' "I" and the other text editor buttons are and you should be able to see the individual buttons load one-at-a-time. this will be a clue that the process is working for you!
4. Check that the editor now works for you.
5. Re-enable ONLY McAfee's "web bug" blocking feature.
6. Repeat this process for each browser that isn't working.

The error code I was getting from the IE browser was,

"Line: 2682 (this number will vary)
Char: 2
Error: 'vB_Editor[...]' is null or not an object

I hope that this helps someone because I know how frustrating it can be! I'm VERY fortunate to have access to some really great computer guys who I can call on at any time. So, hopefully someone who doesn't have this kind of help will find this and be able to fix the problem from it!

Thanks to everyone for all their help and encouragement today!

Nick
