I started having problems with my ignition tumbler today, the key wouldn't turn. Turning the wheels wouldn't help at all. I called roadside assistance and the driver was able to get the key to work by tapping on it with a screwdriver which he said released a stuck tumbler. My question is twofold, first - is there as way to lubricate the tumbler to stop this from happening, second - can I have the tumbler replaced without replacing all of the keys and spending unnecessary amounts of money? This is for a GX470 which I am assuming has the same ignition as the LX. Sorry if I'm wrong, but this forum is significantly better than the Lexus forums.

I tried searching and can't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this looks very similar. I talked with the service mgr at Lexus and he said it was very rare to have an ignition cylinder go bad, but it seems like this might be the problem with my truck. Lexus quoted me $450 to replace the cylinder. Since this has only happened once and it was fixed by tapping the key while in the ignition I'm going to hold off until it happens again before replacing the ignition cylinder.
