ignition shorting out

My buddy's 94 4-Runner has a problem with the ignition...

When he goes to crank it over, it will do nothing, nada, zip. If we rock the 4-Runner back and forth or if he just keeps disengaging and re-engaging the ignition it will eventually kickover like nothing is wrong...

I am an FJ guy myself, but i thought someone here has had similar problems...

If it has an auto tranny you might check the neutral safety switch. If it is a stick check the clutch start switch or the clutch override switch.

BTW check your battery connections first
