Hey gents...
So Im building the shift linkage for the 40.
The latest issue is there is TOO MUCH play on the pivot point.
Here are the details....

tubing that I used as a sleeve that the whole assembly rides on is just a tad BIGGER dia. than the 1/2 in bolt that Im using.
So Im wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what I can do to take up the slack? Any place with weird dia. tubing and such that anyone knows of locally. Is there possibly a bushing with a 1/2 in id that I could insert? Maybe 1/2 in washers and weld them on to the tubing ends? Maybe a bearing that I could weld in?

Here are some pics of how its being run. The slop in the pivot (the tube and the bolt) makes it feel....well...SLOPPY and un secure.

Im getting about TIRED of this part of the build. Its really starting to get frustrating.

Everything is just tacked in right now, so nothing is set in stone.
I can pull the sleeves out and change em and change the bolt etc.

I thought about using a 9/16 bolt and reaming out the tubing that I have too. That would probably be an easy solution too, but I wanted to get some more opinons.
 
Can you wrap the bolt in something? Like maybe the uber sticky 3M rubber tape they use for electrical connections?

A lot of hardware stores carry small bushings as well. You can find them in the aisle full of drawers and bolts etc.
 
Check with the Ace hardware on Prater they have a pretty good selection of oil impregnated bronze bushings. If they don't have what you need try McMaster Carr.

Rusty's suggestion of Ace hardware on Prater was IT!
They have SOOOOOO much crap for us over there. I even found some other options there that I COULD have done, but for the sake of time....
I opted to pick up a bronze sleeve/ bearing with a 1/2 in ID that was CLOSE to the tubing size ID. Then I had to get a drill bit of the OD size.

Now I have to build an OUTER bracket for better support as it still wobbles a bit.

Here's the stuff!

Keith looks like you could take that one piece of steel you have one the ens of your pivot point and go to the trans for better support you might have to make a few bends in it to clear what you need but that should give you the strenght and sturdiness your looking for

just a thought bro

So have you figured out the 2/4WD part yet?

That was what I was devising this eve. an outer support IS THE TICKET to making that set up solid.
I built a bracket just to see off 2 trans bolts above the pan, and it was nice and sturdy. However, I was unable to clear the middle link with it on there, so...back to the drawing board. Ive got a few ideas in mind for that.
However, Ill be going BACK to Ace tomorrow.

I guess that have mostly the same inventory from what the guy at the bearing ace said.

The Ace on Virgina...Had MORE selection, but DIDNT carry the ONE PIECE that I was looking for today that the Bearing ace had!!!!:bang:
Its SOOOOO nice to walk into a place with good old fashioned CUSTOMER SERVICE as BOTH of the Ace stores had!

I forgot what that was like as its so rare anymore!
