Idaho BLM Releases Salmon Travel Management Plan (North Half) and EA

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

The Salmon Field Office Travel Plan (North Half) and Environmental Assessment is complete, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salmon Field Office is asking the public one last time to supply their comments. Substantial comments will be reviewed and processed by the Field Office.

This comprehensive travel planning effort encompasses about 160,000 acres of public lands located in Lemhi County, Idaho. The primary goal is to officially designate over 550 miles of inventoried roads and trails as open, closed or open with limits to public use.

For the last couple of years the Salmon Field Office (SFO) staff has been reaching out to the public, user and resource advocate groups, and local government officials to determine what kind of transportation network would best meet varied public expectations and needs. In response to a host of travel-related issues and public comments and concerns, the BLM developed four alternative transportation or route networks, including a proposed action, which is available electronically on their website at http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/fo/salmon/travel_management.html

The comment period for review of this final course of action ends November 15, 2010.

The EA includes descriptions of the effects for the each alternative and determines how each will affect the overall quality of the human environment. If the impacts of this analysis are determined not to be significant (see 40 Code of Federal Regulations 1508.27), the BLM will then select an alternative, or that combination of alternatives, that best achieves the purpose and need outlined in the planning process.

If you have any questions, or would like to comment on the ongoing plan, please contact the Salmon Field Office using the information below.
