I spotted this trail for sale awhile ago, looks a little different than what I've usually seen.

M100 1/4 ton ,WWII era The M416 replaced in the mid 60s

I don't this is a US miitary trailer unless it' been modified. Rear bumper , lifting handles and lights and light guards are not off a US Military trailer. The WII trailer didn't have handles in the corners. The M100 had handles but was real close to the WWII. Willys and Bantam werethe main suppliers of the WWII trailers. The hand brake is in the wrong location. All US 1/4 ton trailer it was against the bed on the passenger's. After WWII some of the Army's trailers ended up in with our allies who modified them. Could be one of those.

If it's an M100, then it's been modified quite a bit. Including removing the grab handles from each corner, changing out the lunette, substituting a different parking brake and relocating it, altering the landing gear, moving the rear reflectors higher, moving the lights higher and adding protection, adding a rear bumper, and removing the brackets for the cable storage box on the front. It looks more like a modified WWII trailer. Or one pieced together from different trailers.

THat one has a floating axle. I thought a few companies made WWII trailers, could it be a lesser known brand? Maybe Ford? The round fenders indicate it being old

By the looks of the hand brake I would say Swiss... Get a look at the data plate and that should solve your mystery.

The MBT (Willys) and BT3 (Bantam) as well as the few others who made them in smaller numbers during WWII use the same specs. There may have been a few minor differences but pretty much all the same. The WWII trailers and the M100 used that style of full floater axle.

It's a Bantam T3-C trailer from what I can see. It's a non military trailer made to look like one. The biggest tell tale feature is the spring perches. The military ones had 3 holes in them and the civilian ones did not.

I still believe it was rebuild WWII trailer. T3-C did not have a lunette but instead had a 1 7/8" ball hitch. No hand brake. Fewer hooks on the side. Tailgate and pockets for stakes on the sides came on the T3-C.

I just seen you thread on your T3-C you just picked up. Nice find. Even has the combat rims which were replaced with standard wheels in the later ones. But you will also see all the items I mentioned in the post above are on yours but not the one in this thread. Other country's armies rebuilt this trailers including spring perches if needed. Enigma needs to post where he saw this. I think I remember the Swiss just auctioned off a bunch of modified WWII US 1/4 ton trailers.

Yeah, granted there are clues that would lean it one way, then another. The only real proof is the ID plate if it has one.

I did ! It is a nice trailer. It is fundementaly a MB-T except it has 3 cross members(should have 4) . It has the Willys springs and shock absorbers . One of the old owners put a back bumper and 4 grab handles on it. Those parts are not correct but help with the ergonomics ie 4grab handles and back bumper. It also has a Teak insert for the floor.

Koffer,

Heard you were the man for the old school 416 trailers back in the day. You still in the 416 trailer business?

Shooting you a PM as well.

Cheers,
Mike

Roger that.
