Sorry not attending anything, seams my "second" go around 80 series decided to spit HG some months ago. Still pondering fix, or
relative abandonment? Family med. issues have dampend exp. hard.

Any how, 92 w/ 3FE, if I "ever" get time to pull, anyone recommend or use any specific machine shop for say an 3FE (or 2F push rod) to
go over head, and or mod.'s ?

In Waterloo, yet CR/IaCty close, and in DSM quite often.
Maybe someone around here I'm missing, yet if it just to flux to check cracks (no big issue). More if any mod.'s or extra (?) come to mind.

See good # of people w/ the 1FZ-FE's really favor specific shops, so looking for comments within Ia.

Greatly apprecite. Would be nice to meet some of you "sometime" and not drive the frrreeekin mini-van to an LC event (& get shot!).

NO help here. I can recommend you do NOT take it to anyone in Fort Dodge, though. I've had pretty bad luck with just about every shop and the Toyota dealership here.

But, if you're on a budget... why not just pull the head, replace the HG, and call it a day? Or is the damage more extensive than that?

Sorry I am of no help on the engine. Maybe you can make it to our next get together. Not sure that we have one scheduled anytime soon. Keep checking back.

You have a PM with a contact that might be able to help you...

cedar falls

I have an 84 60 series that I take to Schuerman's Auto in Cedar Falls. He's normally really busy, but if you can wait a while, he might be able to do it. I'm not sure of what all he can do in shop, but he is thorough and honest.

Has anyone here a good reference for Des Moines? I now have two 22re's with blown head gaskets and the third one starting to go. If I could find a good mech, I'd have all three completely rebuilt.

I probably won't find a good Toy mech here without paying $100 an hour and so I'll replace the head gaskets myself and do the timing chains while there and hope the bottom end runs past 200k miles without the complete rebuild.

I have to admit, we do have a mechanic in the neighborhood who came from the Toyota dealership and is now in business for himself. But he's really busy at $70\hr doing easy s*** and I've talked to him about head gaskets and even a simpler engine swap (I could buy a rebuild engine obviously) and he's not really interested in either option. Go figure.

Sent you a PM

I'm also looking for references for a good central IA machine shop to have a 22RE rebuilt at. Ames, Des Moines, Knoxville, Indianola, and Chariton are all easy for me to make it to. I could also go further afield for a really good shop. This will be a full rebuild. It has 253k miles and a blown head gasket so I figure it is rebuild time.

I have a repair shop in a small town south of Marshalltown that is good. He had rebuilt a FJ 40 Series motor for me. He farms out the machine work but does all the rest. Basically a general mechanic that does a lot of farm tractor work. PM me if you want the specific information. I will give you me cell # if you want and we can talk. - Larry

I will highly recommend Midstate Machine in Des Moines, Midstate Machine, Des Moines Iowa

John is the owner and Dave is the shop foreman. They did a long block on my 22r about three years ago. Very good at listening to you and making sure you understand what they are doing with your junk. I think their rates are inline, the quality and wow factor were very high IMO.

Thanks for the refs.

As I'm getting my ducks in line the cylinder head I want to use goes out of stock.:frown: Engnbldr.com's Street RV head is what I was looking at using as a replacement. At least it is only out of stock 'til late sep or early oct.

Hey, I can vouch for EngBldr too. I have a six month old head with a rv cam from him. Great quality and service after the sale (took me two times to get the gap right). :bang:

I can vouch for engnbldr as well. I have used their timing chains, tc covers, water pump, and oil pumps before. Quality parts at a good price.
