I think I found the most annoying part to break

'17 LC, Filling up with gas last week, noticed a small clip on the ground. Picked it up and kept it, but didn't think much of it.

Come yesterday when I try to get gas again, I can't get the fuel door to pop open. Luckily the dealer got me right in and was able to get the spring/and plastic retainer in the next day, but getting gas was a 2 person job (one to hold the release latch and the other to push the door open by hand)

Anyone had this break on them?

Yep. Happened to me about a week after I took possession of my 2013. The replacement plastic clip is <$5 and snaps into place in about 30 seconds, just pry the old one off with a screwdriver.

(FWIW the dealer claimed it wasn't covered due to "rust"... not that I can't just spend the $5 but seriously rust on a plastic part on a Texas truck that had been in Illinois less than a week. Asshats)

It should. Grossinger Toyota by me is known for terrible service. I can confirm. That said the part was literally under $5 with tax and I installed it in less than 2 minutes - 3/4 of which was determining how to pop the old one off (pro tip - just pry it off from the door side it'll be fine)

Agreed. I only did mine as a warranty claim (which the jerks denied) because I was heading in for another issue (DVD screen wouldn't close), TBH $5 and a couple minutes of labor was LESS "cost" than the stress of arguing with them about how plastic doesn't rust, especially in Texas...

BTW if this happens it is possible to open the gas door by yourself. You just need to stuff something into the gap to wedge it open so when you pull the release it'll move the door slightly. Super annoying though

Happened to me this winter on my 15. I’m glad I saw the clip on the ground because otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed it…

Didn’t but 2 an 2 together until the next time I want to get fuel and I couldn’t open the gas tank cover! On a road trip very near to E and bit worried about trying to figure out how to resolve it.

Bonded it using some JB Weld from the convenient store haven’t looked back since.

My wife’s 2014 just broke - have ordered the part. 2 temp solutions while the part is shipping…

1. open the latch and stick a tube of lip balm in to hold it open while you go around and push the fuel open from outside the car.

2. Place 1/2 of a dish sponge inside and close the door. When you pull the latch the sponge will pop it open, you may have to pick the sponge off the ground. I fit mine between the fuel cap holder and it stayed fine.

Thats why I got my LRA tank…so with fewer stops for gas, it would take me twice as long to wear out my $5 clip. heheh

But seriously, that is definitely in the super annoying category!

Mine broke last year on my one truck. Reminds me that I should probably replace it on my other.

Was super annoying trying to get gas but I lucked out as I was just down the street from a dealer and they fixed it immediately with no charge.

broke one on thje 4 runner, now that i have the LC, for the price there is one in the glove box of each vehicle, easy to fix,
I used a nerf ball instead of a sponge till I got the new part,
