I was wondering if it possible to get new core lids/tops (not the tanks) with the tabs, for a plastic tank hz rad out of hzj79. I'm asking cause I'm trying to get my rad rebuilt and the local guy says he can't find the correct core lids ( which have the tabs to bend over onto the plastic tank), so he wants to build new tanks. which would work but would involve soildering many nuts on to attache the mounting brackets and shroud. In the end were talking about a $ 1000.0 rad:confused: , which seems to be a bit to much. Any opinions would help.

Thanks
Joel.

A mates plastic rad in his 79 was stuffed he replaced it with a early metal one, has had no problems unless you need a plastic one, ebay au sells brand new ones for around $350-450 au better than $1000

Thanks there clint, I had a look but shipping is the killer ( about 200.0) I looked a little deeper and was able to source one from ENS in Canada for about $ 550.0 (stock) , for either the 79 plastic or 75 brass tank style.

Joel.

$550 for an OEM is not a bad price. I would check to see which has the larger volume. I was told the aluminium radiator has more volume to handle the 1HD FTE engine that was fitted to the HDJ78/79 but Im not 100% sure.
Some owners claim it will also keep their 1HZ cool with aftermarket turbos fitted.
