Have a heat pump that gets (for lack of a more technical term) stuck circulating freon? The condensor is running outside but the airhandler makes this ungodly snapping and cracking sound, usually you hear the gas circulate for 10 sec. or so and the fan kicks on. This is where the "stuck" situation occurs, it just keeps circulating and gettting louder and louder. It does not happen all the time, so repair people are a little vague on ideas. Anyone had this happen or have an good leads?

Thanks,
scott

What is the brand and approx. age of the system.
What are the diagnoses of the techs who have tried.
What keeps getting louder.
Where does the snapping and crackling come from on the air handler.
Does the system maintain temperature set point when this happens.
Does it happen during cooling or heating or both.

Sounds like you might have a failed reversing valve... but more information would be helpful. Like brand and model. Do you have refrigeration gauges? Would be extremelly helpful to know what pressures are happening on both the liquid and the vapor sides of the system. If you want- you can all me direct.

I wouldn't listen to this guy; It sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. :D
