Howdy Razorbacks;
I'm thinking about spending a week or so over in the Ouchita area...are there enough national forest service roads to Tacoma or mountain bike on to keep a guy happy for a few days?

Man, we got more than enough to keep you busy! Talk to Jayston Landon "liljlandon" on this board. He can fill you in on some details about where to go.

What part are you looking for specifically? I'm pretty well versed on the Oklahoma side for the Ouachitas, not so much the Arkansas side. Now... The Ozarks, thats a whole different story!

The Ouachita NF spans from OK to close to Little Rock, so you've got lots of area to cover. Which town will you be near?

Stop by the National Forest visitors center in downtown Hot Springs and grab up some MVUM maps.

I'm really only familiar with the East of Hot Springs section that is near Lake Winona and Lake Sylvia. There's a guided "autotour" that will take you to all the overlooks. The road that circles Lake Winona has some decent terrain on the southwest side, but other than that, most of the roads out there are either well maintained (I see cars all the time), or 5 minute long dead ends. Very few water crossings or extreme grade changes.

Edit: yes, plenty of mountain bike terrain. :)

I have no plans in mind, and no location in mind.
I'd just like to explore some easy "stock Taco" grade trails, and some mountain bike-able stuff, and start building a knowledge base of the area.
It's a lot closer than Colorado, and I'd like to get to know it better

My "stock Taco" is an 05 V6/6speed, on IronMan 2" lift, factory LSD, and 265/70 LongTrail AT's...not a trail beatch like my 40.

It'd be nice to have "a base camp" to work out of if there's a nice campsite with a shower somewhere, but, I can move every day too.

Sorry for the slow reply, for some reason 'mud has never been able to get me "every new post" notifications reliably...
