How hard to install greasable shackle pins?

2x on what fj40forlife said. Also Rusty re finding the neutral point with the jack under the axle. I can't agree more with D'Animal re not using the pressed in zerks. Try to change a pressed in zerk in the field. Not good. Drilled and tapped pins are the way to go.

Try and get stock sized greasable pins (15mm for me), because many are made with 5/8" bolts, and then you'll have to drill out the new bushings - not easy.

Good luck and take your time.

As Rusty-tlc said, “The key is to get the suspension in a neutral position.” I bought poly urethane bushings from SOR. Some buy the rubber bushings instead. Poly is hard and may be more difficult to install. I did mine on a frame up, so I did not have much in the way.

Since I used 1/4 bar stock for my new shackles I had to replace the OEM bolts. I used 5/8" bolts and drilled the bushings out. A 5/8" reamer would have been a better choice but I had a limited budget. At any rate it was a fairly easy job to hog the bushing out to the larger size, and 5/8" stuff is a lot easier to find than the metric hardware.

Dan, I should have added YMMV. I had a hard time drilling out the poly bushings on my drill press. I started out with a spade bit with the bushing held captive in a hunk of wood, didn't work well as the bushing wound up spinning and I wasn't gonna hold it w/fingers. I ended up using my trusty dremel with drum sander. Didn't think about a reamer...

It's all good. Enjoy your holiday.

I used a plumbers strap wrench and drill press. You can't use a vise because it deforms the bushing. I probably should have mentioned how I did it in my original post huh?

I'm doing this right now as well. Since I'm replacing my shackles with greasable anyways, I popped off the one side, then took my angle grinder to the other to cut them off. Instead of dicking around trying to get the rear shackle out of 2 sets of bushings, now it is simply half a shackle out of 1 set of bushings. Torch and BFH are your friend. You will get there eventually. Soaking with penetrating oil is a must. Good luck!

So these are the bushings and pins I am thinking about getting (CCOT).

Are the zerks in these pins threaded?
Why does it say aftermarket shackles when stock is 18MM?

Are these good bushings?

I don't know about CCOT Zerks. The ones in the picture are for the shackles. You can get them for the stationary mount end of the spring as well.

If they are not the thread in type of jerks, it is pretty easy to thread them and install a jerk fitting.

Most tractor places have overized jerks if you need to go bigger.

I opted for the Poly bushings in black from SOR. I recently read a post and they chose the rubber bushings. To each there own. Either way, your ride will be better with the greasable fitting. I left mine stock for a future project.

If you get the greasable pins from CCOT, then no, they are not tapped for zerks, only pressed in. At least mine were. I had a bit of a time getting the pressed in zerks out. Vice and Vicegrips were the only way I could get them out. The drilling and tapping for the 6mx1 zerks was easy. You'll probably have to ask each vendor if the zerks are tapped.
