I am looking at buying an 02 LC in Houston, I was wondering if anyone would mind checking it out a little bit before I go? I live in tennessee and its kind of sight unseen at this point

We are very interested in the Cruiser, looks to be in great shape and has relatively low miles for its age. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe have a look at it, I talked to them once this morning and have not veen able to get ahold of them since. I dont know if they closed early or are ignoring me because I am out of state. Do you know of any good nearby shops to them that can do a Pre purchase inspection?

CMC is over by hobby airport - a somewhat sketchy part of town. My regular mechanic is 35 miles from there near I 10 and the west belt. I would be happy to look at it for you but have no way to get it up on a lift to check for obvious repairs. I own a 2000 since it was new and do most of my own work on it.

Have you asked about service records?

I havent yet, I just talked to them and tried to see if theyd take it to Javiers, and I havent heard back from him. No answer when I call

I went to that place before I bought my LX. They had no less that 3 100s and one or two LXs on the lot at the time. They are in the business of flipping desirable cars and they know how in demand Land Cruisers can be. But be prepared to imperfections that you cannot see in the online pictures. I'm not saying they're hiding anything, but it may or may not even be detailed. They sort of just buy them and put them on the lot. Also, if they don't sell them in a acceptable timeframe the sell them to an exporter that sends them to Africa or South America. That could be a flag that their inventory isn't really ready for primetime when It comes to the Texan consumer. One of their cruisers in inventory came from Hawaii so they are buying at auction from who knows where. I may or may not have sat in that cruiser and it seemed like there were kids in the backseat for a lot of those miles. Let me know when you see it if we're talking about the same car. I would say that the cars that I looked at that day were moderately overpriced (like $15.5k when I would have only paid around $13k) and they had their share of quirks (hatch struts, transfer case grinding when going to 4H or 4L, carpet stains). I don't think they are explicitly being dishonest, they are just in the business of flipping land cruisers and they know they can sign people up for credit on them all day long. Just another Houston buy here pay here lot. They also just run a simple carfax if you ask so you need to run the VIN through Autocheck and the manufacturer service website too. I'm really NOT trying to scare you off, just make sure you do your due diligence in the marketplace and find one you really like.

I looked at every 100 and LX in the Houston area in my price range then I expanded my search online to a wider radius. Saw an 05 w/ 132k in Bastrop for (I think) $18,9 and I ended up buying it for (I think) $18,4.

My advice would be to search a wider area like Austin or Dallas, get approved at a credit union if you're not paying cash, and make sure the history is clear. And check that damn transfer case knob for grinding.

Thanks for the detailed reply, Im in memphis TN and have been searching for a very long time. It seems as though I might need to pass on the truck. I dont know if im being suspiscious but it seems as thought they are screening my calls? I dont know i havent been in contact with them all day. but ive tried calling!

Ok I spoke to the guy, typical middle eastern used car guy. I would absolutely not buy this car without a thorough physical inspection. He said I could come down and look at it but I'm not sure what good that will do.

He said he would get back to you when he gets freed up as he is understaffed.

Fwiw. This place has no relationship with Chase Bank, it is a one off used car dealership.

*67 and call.

Wow. Thank y'all for all of the help. I've never experienced anything like this. Guy was totally screening my calls. Once I asked him to have it inspected he started screening me. If any of y'all ever find yourselves in west TN please message me. I'd like to buy you a beer

Final question, does anyone recommend any shops in Houston for a PPI?
