hot weather = high rpms????

In my case, I've tried pulling up on the accelerator, with no change. I will still try manually adjusting it from under the hood.

Huh? The cable is under tension, so just pull on the pedal with your foot towards the driver.

I just went out and double checked: Pulling up on the gas pedal simply adds a little slack at that end; go look for yourself and tell me if you don't agree. I don't think the cable is supposed to be under tension at idle, and even if it is, pulling up on the pedal would just loosen it, not tighten it.

In your earlier post you said it only happens when not in gear.

Exactly - it only revs when I put it in park or neutral. I never touch the accelerator (just the brake to allow shifting). I've checked the hand throttle, and tried pulling up/back on the accelerator but no luck. Even if the throttle cable were bound somewhere, wouln't it continue to rev when I put it in gear?

To be clear, the tack sits around 900 rpm when in gear at idle and not moving without touching the accelerator. When I move into any gear, the tack jumps to around 2100 rpm and has occassionally surged to 2400 rpm.

I've also tried tapping the accelerator, stomping on the brake, turning the a/c on and back off (it has always been off when this occurs, but really doesn't change when it is on - the rpms go slightly higher both in drive and in park/neutral). It happens whether the car is cold (just started after sitting over night) or if it has been driven for a while.

I'm still at a loss, but I allowed the dealer to replace the TPS as that seemed to make sense - no improvement though.
