John (BorregoWrangler from Adventure4x4.net) and I took a trip up to Anza to run Horse Canyon. We discovered Horse Canyon after a group of us had a disappointing run to Upper Coyote Canyon last May, and have been wanting to get back there ever since.

Horse Canyon has some nice obstacles for those wanting a challenge and bypasses for those who don't. Some of the challenging spots from last May would have been impossible this time due to erosion from rain. There are also water crossings, however, this time out they were not too wet. John and I ventured up into the canyon as far as we could after passing a couple of very tight squeezes.

We met a couple of other rigs (an older CJ and a new 4Runner) who followed us out. They had to turnaround at one obstacle, that did not offer a bypass, due to the stock 4Runner's clearance. The 4Runner mangled both running boards on previous obstacles.

On the way out we took a side wash which, I believe, is named White Wash. This was a very rocky wash that we also took as far as we could. At the end is a pretty neat (dry) rock waterfall.

I didn't take as much footage as I should have. There were only two rigs so there was no excuse. To top it off, John forgot is memory card for his camera and I only took six pictures.

Anyway, here is what I did get. The (video) shot of John going through the second "squeeze" is cutoff because the battery died. Double

This is the second squeeze. I moved the rock on the left out while forcing my way through this. It made coming back through here interesting. We had to stack a bunch of rocks to "ramp" that rock. That same rock also mangled my rear fender flare. Triple

Sometimes it is a little better when not burdened down with constantly taking pictures. Glad you took a few to show off though. :D Thanks for sharing.

That's true. Sometimes it can feel like a real burden. What I need is a designated "cameraman". At what age can a kid really understand how to use a camera?? Luke . . .

Oooh nice. Thanks John!!

Upper Coyote Canyon / Horse Canyon Part Deux.

We made it out there today. A very cool place. Reid, we followed your tracks all the way to where you turned around. Your right, if anyone wants to go any further than that they will need a rock buggy. We only went part way up the other canyon to the right. That wash was just too much for us to bear. Driving 2 mph just to go over rocks that were only a half a foot high. After 1 mile we called it quits. We did however go all the way to the cabin, and down another side canyon to another camp ground. That area looks like it would be great for camping. We battled high winds all the way out there, but the wind was strangly absent down in the canyons. Anyway on to the pics.

Where are the pictures of your rig Braden?

You better be careful, that guy you were wheeling with is a little nuts.

 Sorry, couldn't help it.

i didn't take any of my rig. Guess that sounds crazy, but I didn't feel like taking more poser shots of my rig. Ya, his nuts make a lot of noise on the trail. It took me a while to figure out where the clinking chain noise was coming from.

guess I'm sorta glad I didn't head south - looks like I would've left with some panel damage as well :D

still, looks like a fun one...

Do you like tapes or CDs?

CDs nuts!:p;):D:cool::eek::censor::lol::clap::flipoff2:

Your 60 is narrower than an 80, no? I think you wold be fine. I only tagged the flare, no sheet metal damage.

The more I look at this thread the more I want to run this trail, thanks for scoping out and sharing Reid. :hhmm:
