Anybody here mess with Holleys much? The one on my truck is about 2 yrs old ( model 1850 600 cfm ), sits thru the winter pretty much. Here lately its been loading up BAD. Put the spring loaded needle and seat kit in it, and extended the bowl vents with tubing, after blasting everything with carb cleaner real good a couple times. Floats are set where you have to shake the truck pretty good to get fuel out of the sight plugs. Even bought an SA book on Holley's from autozone for reference as I went along. Still loading up. This just started about 2 weeks ago, up 'till then, no problems. Fuel system- seat tank to Fram Canister style filter, Carter electric Street Pump ( 3-5 lbs press ) to carb. Hasn't backfired, so I don't " think " the powervalve is blown. I'm stumped  , any idea's? Many frustrated thanks, Al

What's a carburator?

I think its that thing that will eventually get replaced, if my brother is serious about wanting my Ford top loader 4 spd for his Mustang :D . Told him I'd trade for a TBI system. But that don't help me now. Al

Let me start off by saying that most of my experience with carbs is marine and agricultural applications, however:

I did some online reading on the 1850, and one site I went to said check the powervalve, if the floats are properly adjusted and you can see the fuel in the sight glass, as you mentioned. IMO since it was working, I can see how the powervalve may have dried up.

Boats and other seasonal engines.

Boats (and other seasonal vehicles) have a unique problem in that most are stored in the off-season, and the fuel is left to dry out in the carb. Rubber parts, including float valves, accelerator pump diaphragms and power valves, can dry out and stiffen. When fuel is added at the start of the season, these components can fail, causing leaks, fuel level and richness problems, including loading up, plug fouling, and overflowing (

Having spark plugs foul out with dry sooty deposits is a direct result of excessive fuel. This is usually caused by two things: Improper fuel level and/or blown power valves. The fuel level problem could be a misadjusted float, excessive fuel pressure, bad float valve, or bad float. If the fuel level is ok (just looking at the bottom of the sight hole),

WFD, thank you. That makes sense, and I have a couple I could try. Bought a " kit ", just in case. I'm sure the gas now adays dosen't help. Thanks agin, Al

Not really sure. Parked the Cruiser for awhile, in the mean time, have bought a TBI setuo from a '95 Suburban ( actually the whole motor ), and am working on my M-416 Trailer. Last time out was such a pain in the ass, that I'm done with carbs. Right now, Third Gen.Org is my friend. Thanks for asking, Al

There's a 2006 GTO LS_ for sale on ST Louis Craigslist for $600.00.

Next time tell me these things. I'm looking for one of those. If it was real its long gone now.

It was yesterday, and is in washington. The guy has been selling the parts for a few months.

Thos motors go for like 5-6 thousand on Ebay if they have the tranny, computer and wiring harness with them.
