Hey guys..
Not sure if this is the right section, but i was thinking pretty crazy the other night, and it seems rather hardcore to do...but..

does anyone know if its possible to fit a Hilux 4x4 gearbox into an FJ40 and then connect the fj40 transfer case onto the back of it?

im sorta thinking of doing a different engine conversion, and would be easier with a hilux box rather than a landcruiser, but still wanna keep my pto transfer case..

ideas/thoughts/number for mental asylum... :hillbilly:

also does anyone know how to drain the factory radiator - theres no coolant plug on the bottom :S

cheers Dave

Hi All:

No, the transmission from a Hilux won't bolt-up to a Land Cruiser t-case.

Are you speaking of a 40/45 Series radiator? There should be a drain cock on the bottom, right side (looking forward) of the radiator for draining the coolant.

Regards,

Alan

Mate anything is possible it will just take a custom adaptor between the two.
Being in wellington you will need to talk to Brian Howat. He's your man for things like this. He mated up a friends hilux transfercase to a holden 3.8 V6 for about $400 (I think)

Sweet, cheers for the replys, il have to have a better look at the radiator i think.

as for the hilux gearbox/landcruiser i think il just go with a hilux setup right through now, though im going to go have a chat to a guy here first, but got given a coil spring rear end today from a hilux so might go with that and then just run an electric winch.

ahh sweet as, got any pics of your ride?

iv decided im going to go all out, sell the pto winch and box etc, and transplant all hilux running gear into it and have it as a wide axle coil sprung cruiser for off road use only..

should be interesting to do

I am building a rock buggy but its just a pile of bits at the moment. The plan is to go super lightweight. Specs so far are custom chassis. Prado diffs, yes solid front end. 37 MTR's and a 1.8 injected BMW motor with SJ413 transfercase. Going to run 6.5:1 calmini gears. Suspension is 4 link with fox shocks, 18's on the read and 12's on the front. I havnt decided to either skin it as a 40 series or a hilux.... I am contemplating a build up thread, mabey when I have more to show
