Gents, I have an '89 HJ75, with a 2H engine. It has been sitting for quite some time, while I changed a gearbox etc. All is good now, however when I start it, it will cut out after 10seconds or so.

During this time I notice the oil pressure gauge does not move. If I start the car AGAIN, the pressure gauge will move, and the car will run fine.

Does the car have enough smarts to stop itself if there is no pressure...?

What could be the problem here?

Thanks for the reply, I figured it would be something similar!

Any tips for what to look for to fix this? First thing I'll be double checking is my oil level I think, and then I suppose my oil pump?

It may be the sender is a bit crook. you will find it behind the starter about 100mm from the back of the block. It is about25mm across with 1 wire. You could put your mind to rest and hook up a gauge and check the pressure. If thats ok then drive it for a wile,it may fix the sender .
