Our HJ75 has an electrical problem that has me stumped. The high beams, headlights, horn and electronics that work with no key in the ignition work fine, but when we put the key in and try to crank, nothing happens. The gauges don't get power, the radio doesn't get power, no turn signals, no starter. We cleaned all the battery connections and the grounds to the chassis and body and made sure the battery is charged. We also checked all the fuses and all are ok.
I also placed jumper cables right to the starter and the motor cranks, but does not run. I'm guessing the EDIC needs power for the motor to run?

Anyway, where should we go next to track this problem down?

91

It's 1991. It's a new vehicle to us, could there be a kill-switch I'm unaware of? Could it just be a bad ignition tumbler?

I think so,or some sort of relay. Are you in oz?

A 91 would be a HZJ75 and no EDIC

HJ75 has 2H with after market Garrett Turbo installed in Oz. We are in USA.

tumbler not getting power

so my indicator light tells me that i'm not getting power to the tumbler. the five wires running up the column have no current. where should i look between the battery and the tumbler for the problem? i haven't seen anything obvious like an inline fuse or an unplugged harness.

thanks in advance for whatever you can tell me....

Interesting, a 1991 HJ75 with a 2H-T.

In 1991 it should have the 1HZ engine, and not the 2H unless someone switched it.

You should carefully check the fusible links. These are found near the positive terminal of the battery - often there are several colours (depends on the size of the wire) - the length of the fusible links is only about 7 or 8 cm. Often these will fuse and you won't be able to tell from the outside (insulation) of the wire.

its a 1985 with 2-H, not 1991. communication error, sorry.

You should have started your own post or waited until this one has run its course,we are still discussing the original post.

another error

sorry, another communication error. I was on a friend's computer that was already signed in on his name, Hekla, when I'm the one who really has the question. I wasn't hi-jacking the post, the posts have been from me all along, just different computers. Sorry for the confusion.

Anywho, I'll have to take a look at the links. How do I replace them if they are bad? just splice in a piece of wire or another fuse or...?

any pics of the links?

thanks!

Yes,on mine it was near the positive battery terminal.
Take whats left of the blown fuse wire and match it up at a parts store, that what I did.

It maybe the same amps as an american FJ60, so if you cant get the wire, the dealer may have some.
