Thinking about buying a hitch mounted cargo carrier or a hitch basket. Does anyone have any good or bad experience with any of these? I like the idea of the fold type but im wondering if the non-folding may be more stable. Anyone?

I got one that converts to a cart. I added some legs so it would stand on it's own. I use it to haul firewood on the back of my TLC and my wife uses it around the yard (on wheels) to help with flower planting.

I have one for hauling firewood and game from hunting on. Seems to work fine. I wouldn't load it up with 500lbs of stuff, but for most things they seem to work fine.

FWIW, mine was free from a neighbor who got one that was messed up from the factory, he got a new one and I welded up the old one to make it work, so mine was a deal.

Two things I don't like about them. They kill your departure angle, and they can keep you from accessing the rear of your rig if they are loaded high. Just another thought.

Having one is a compromise because of the departure angle, blocking the rear door, etc. I like mine and it works for my needs. Has a 600lb capacity though I would never test that claim on my short-wheelbase Class III vehicle. The main bar has a 2" rise so the only time it has ever dragged the ground was off-road when I wasn't paying attention to my driving line. Basically I needed a convenient spot for cargo overflow (I like to see out my rear window), and to carry the occasional tire, engine, or dead animal that I didn't want inside. With a couple hundred pounds back there I definitely feel the balance of the vehicle change, but I plan to ugrade suspension at some point so that will help.

I'm sure the folding models will make more noise and move around more than a fixed platform simply due to the pivot point, but one of these should help - Hitch stabilizer: no wobble, anti rattle device for hitch accessories
I've had good luck with mine so far...
