Recently purchased a 2013 LX to replace my totaled 2010 LX. The 2013 has was a one owner and has 153,000 miles on it with all service being done at Lexus until 130K, where they switched to Penzoil for two oil changes.

My 2010 had 160K at the time of loss, with the only notable repair in my ownership (9months) being four struts replaced by the selling dealer as part of my inspection and negotiation.

My 2013 was inspected prior to purchase and only filters and new brakes Were recommended. it drives nice and tight, but I’m wondering if I can reasonably expect 300K (another 150K) without being more cost effective to trade it in (as opposed to countless repairs). My gut and knowledge tells me this is entirely possible with proper servicing, but I haven’t seen many 200 LXs with over 220K personally.

also, as an aside, I get a vinegar or sour smell from time to time while running the AC. I changed the cabin and engine airfilters with no improvement. Any ideas?

I don’t have near that many miles but 300k is my goal. I’m hopeful to run this one up to 300k mark or beyond. It think good PM will convince most of the expensive bits to go the distance. I am expecting to do a radiator, starter, fluids (including suspension) etc.

I had no problem running an ‘07 4Runner to 277k. It’s with it’s new owner now, a friend, and doing great. The LX seems to be of similar quality BUT it’s a more complex vehicle. Anything as complex as the LX will have likely have some old age issues but the drivetrain should remain solid in my estimation. Tundra trucks seem to hang in there and there are many common parts.

I did a quick stint with a Mercedes GL320... Part of choosing the LX was spending a lot of time here looking for catastrophic failures and common problems. Radiators and coolant leaks (both seemingly most applicable to ‘11 and earlier), lousy parking brakes, alloys that don’t like winter road treatment* and after that problems seem to be scattered and rare. Go spend some time on Mercedes forums and that will help to reassure you, believe me. Recurring huge repairs were commonplace. This forum is: “what roof rack? Will this tire fit without rubbing? Which fridge/drawer setup should I use? Here’s pics from my awesome trip.” Yes, there’s occasional issues but in general the lack of drama/posts is a good thing. Again, look to the Mercedes forums for some confidence.

*The thing about the rusting bits is really location dependent.

In my experience with cars there's two main factors to a vehicle operating reliably - mileage and time. Time based condition is multiplied by how complex the vehicle was when new. (electronics seem to age poorly over time compared to mechanicals)

I'd guess you could put 300k on a '13 LX in 4 to 7 years and have no issues whatsoever. How long will 300k take you? If it's another 10 years then I'm pretty confident there will be SOMETHING unusual that goes wrong.

My '91 80 series has 206k, and needs weird things from time to time. The '13 LX is far more complicated. Contrary to that, my 1986 military diesel (which has one wire running to the motor other than the glow plugs) rarely needs anything.

I’ve seen few 570 in mid 200k mile range and still kicking strong. Besides common issues, pm, may need struts. I’m looking to put 300k on mine but mostly likely it will get traded for 300 series.
