Hi,

I am considering buying a first gen Access Cab as a replacement for my Mitsu Pajero overlanding rig:

The particular truck I am looking at is a 2005; has 287K miles. Carfax shows one commercial owner for first three years, then 10+ years one private owner, then it was imported to the current seller in Poland. Service records show approx 15 oil changes (should be much more in my view but also not sure how detailed/reliable those Carfax reports are).

I own a 100-series with the same 2UZ-FE engine and I know that the engine should live another couple tens of thousands kilometers with no issues but no idea about the rest of the truck? Looking for some opinions and preferably first hand reports on such high mileage Tundras.

Ah, rust-wise it seems OK. Not as clean as some of your trucks or even my LX, but still way better than any other 2005 European pickup truck I could buy here in Poland after 20 salty-road winters :)

Any help appreciated!

Tough to say not knowing your market there. Is it a relatively low asking price for the miles?

You'll need lower ball joints for sure so add that in. Looks like the body is in decent shape. Put a light in the oil cap and check the level of buildup, oil color, coolant levels. If those look decent and the rack isn't shot and the price is good, go for it

The price is reasonable for the mileage, I mean it's cheaper because of the high miles. I will ask a Toyota 4x4 specialized shop to run a full check-up on the truck. LBJ issue I am aware of and plan to replace for peace of mind.

But in general, will that last me another, say - 50K with no engine rebuild and major drivetrain issues? I know it's a guess, but I'm looking up to the members here who have much more experience. My Pajero is almost 300 K km which is still considerably lower than the Tundra I am considering (465K km) and I'm torn :(

by the way, please note that here in Poland we can get special "US" Polish plates for US-imports to fit the factory license place location/bracket :)
