I see Man A Fre has a good design. A great one actually; however, I concerned about security.

I see that this unit has a location for a pad lock; however, what's to
say whomever is interested in lifting my jack doesn't just take the
horizontal mounting hardware off the main tire carrier itself and walk away with jack, jack mount and lock?

Some dude from Man A Fre recommended I tack weld the hardware with a MIG welder.

What good is that gonna do me?

Then I can't get the damn tire off myself!!!

Any other mfgs. out there?

Most I know clamp it to the rack, I had a set made by Demello before I swapped racks from stock to an ARB. Now mine use a billet piece, bolted to the ARB, the bolt that attaches the Hi-lift needs a 10mm hex wrench for removal. Not a common tool, but still easily removed with the right tool.

Security can get complicated in some areas, less so where I live, yet, not impervious to crime. I "lost" 2 iPods out of my truck, in my driveway, doors left unlocked, it's on me. Yet, I don't worry about someone stealing my Hi-lift or my spare or my cats but I'm probably being stupid.

I'd leave it home when possible and one reason I like roof mounts is that they "perp" will have to crawl on the bumper and it will set off the alarm, I hope.

I've seen people mount them inside, using the front seat bolts as the mounting brackets. Other than the tube clamp mounts, I've not seen mounts other than after market bumper/tire carrier, sorry...

I have my Hi-Lift mounted to the side of the rack and use a cable run through it with a pad lock. Living in the country helps too.

yeah, that's another idea i was toying with.

i'm way out in the country at the end of a dirt road too; however, i work right near the slums.

had my truck broken into once already. i doubt they'd know what to do with a hi lift but likely it would be hocked at a pawn shop for 20.00.

BTW, NCFJ, I'm STRONGLY considering one of your rear bumpers. they're pretty sick looking.

i like the mesh on the top. especially the raised quarters. good solid standing platforms.

ummm...well, i THOUGHT i'd be able to mount a 33" tire to this carrier; however, in just looking at my stock tire hanging off of it, there's no more room for a larger tire than there was before!

Also, what exactly is the purpose of the telescoping arm, again? What good does it do me if I can't mount a larger tire?

I'm starting to think this purchase was a bad idea.

sweet.....this is great.

i have to buy yet another part (spacer) to mount BEHIND this carrier to extend it enough to mount a 33.

i'll be damned if i'm sending it back and paying a restocking fee.

awesome.

Just give me a ring when you are ready. We can accomodate a hi lift mount on the swing out as well if you go that route.
