its got new muffler tailpipe. rear brakes think it has new front brakes. new alt, has 32 inch 11/50 tires on it. 22re motor. acording to the tag underhood it has the a340h transmission. It has a issue with the trans. says it takes about 5 mins for it to warm up and then shifts fine. So im in process of trying to figure out whats the cheapest and easyest swap i can do for a trans. Should i swap to a manual? Swap to a difrent modle a340? Or should i go with a aw4 out of a jeep use the a340 bell houseing on it? I no i would need new or custom driveshafts but what else would be needed if i swaped to the jeep trans and transfercase? how difrent is the wireing? any things i should no any hel[p info tips be great thanks. O yeah its a 86 4runner

Cool. A 4runner buddy.I've seen that 4runner before too. Can't remember where. The sombrero and step bumper are familiar.

The less overall hassel will likely be a Toyota 5speed swap and get you some more umph. I've heard that there are a bunch of extra electronics and sensors that need to work flawlessly for the 4runner auto trans. Ask "emorth" about those issues. I dont know about swapping in J**p parts.
Flush your cooling system and check the cooling temp sensor that talks to the transmission. I believe that Ed "emorth" said that the tranny won't shift until the truck is warmed up as a failsafe. Might be easier than a tranny swap. Find a way for the truck to warm up more quickly and your tranny might just work.

I could just be spouting BS though, as I had that convo 3 years or more ago.
Worth looking into.

*Edit

Just saw your post in the early truck section and that Auto is pretty much a mandatory.

i helped a friend buy the 4runner about 6 years ago he replaced the motor. drove it couple times and elft it parked for basicly 5 years starting it once in awhile. Ive done started paying him for it so its mine. in past couple months he decided to put it on the street did some work on it trans acted up he gave up. Anyone in baltimore maryland are with a complete 5speed swap setup siting in there shed garage house or backyard they wana selll?

realy 450 is to much for everything to swap from a a340h to a w56 setup. maybe i will try and get him to knock it down alittle. My options for complete setups are alittle tuff to find here in baltimore.

Let me check my sources down here and I may be able to find you a tranny.

need everything to be able to convert a a340h setup to a 5speed setup i mean everything i got none of the parts other then the auto setup
