From the LC Prado platform

Here is the Land Cruiser Family Tree: http://tlc.toyota-europe.com/main_frame.html

The (Prado/4R/GX/FJ)= 120 platform based on--->90 series--->70 series

Clearly the USA LC is from a different development line. 100--->80--->60--->50

I can't see how the 90 is part of the 70 family of cruisers.........they are nothing alike and made by different folks(Araco vrs whoever)

I also don't think the 120 and the Fj are on the same platform

The FJ is based on the current 4Runner platform right (but shortened, so is it even the same 'platform')?. The 4Runner shares a platform with the Lexus GX470 I have been told, even though they look nothing alike, I have been told the 'platform' is the same. The GX470 is sold as a Land Cruiser Prado 120 in other parts of the world I have heard.

So, in a round about way I guess the FJ could be based on the Prado 120 platform. I think it would be more fair to say it's based on the same engineering. So the ideas are the same, IFS front, solid rear axle, probably same tranny and t/c components, etc.

When I think based on the same platform I think two identical vehicles (Ford Explorer and Mercury something-or-other), etc, which this isn't that case. Might be BASED on something similar but not a direct copy of each other.

It's like saying that the RAV4 is based on a corrola platform and the Highlander is based on a Camry platform. The basic frame structure is the same. It's different from two cars that are nearly identical with different branding.

Here's an example. If I remember correctly, the 80s T-birds were based on the Fox body. They were on the Mustang platform as opposed to the Cougars, that were the same car with different options.
