I am jealous, I just have the Hero (1) But it still takes great video. Make sure to get the roolbar mount or the handleber mount (will mount to your mirror arm) and have fun. By the way your 40 is looking better all the time

I always keep any large pieces of cardboard I get and use them until the next nice piece comes along. Disposable, biodegradable and saves the old bones from gravel.

I do the same with cardboard. Around here, we call them Georgia creepers.

It's cold outside, so this is the only 'mod' I've done this week!

Our club, Olde North State Cruisers did a Hamom this weekend in Southern Pines. Ive never been so amazed at the diversity, generosity and friendly lot of people. I am not a social butterfly, I love to read, occasionally write, shoot pictures and most of the time - do things that dont require me to deal with too many people on first name friendly basis.

MeJane has changed this solo aspect of my personality, much to the amazement of the one person who knows me best - my huz, Rob. I am drawn to talk Landcruisers, even if its over my head..there could not be a better group of guys, at least in North Carolina. So without further ado - here are some pics - I managed to change out the hatch struts and replace one of the original seats with a direct bolt in from an Audi Roadster..and let me tell you - the audi seats are AMAZING. I ran out of time to put the driver side seat in.

My huz (thats him in the digicam, telling a story, Im sure) simultaneously worked on replacing my tie rod ends and Ive got to say that the steering is MUCH improved. Less wandering and while the driving is not stiff, there's a heckuva lot less stress in driving without constant correction to stay straight. Between the smaller tires and TRE's - the question of power steering is a completely dead path at this point.

As another member and I were discussing, I love my 40 as it is.

What year/model was the seat out of? Pics?

no booties on the TREs ?

Here you go - its not till I look at these that I realize the seat I installed may need a little dusting :D

To answer the big question, I do not know what year Audi - but Ill contact the previous owner and see if he knows. As you can see, the PS seat is definitely a bit higher than the old driver side seat - but an added plus? The previous owner saved all the harness' (harnesses?) and I can have heated seats! Im pretty sure that I will leave the passenger seat 'cold'...seeings how it sits over the GAS TANK.

Last pic is the Conferr Brush guard - I have a red Teq badge that Im thinking of mounting in the middle of it - that old conferr sticker wont last long in this neck of the woods!

We need some pics of those Audi seats for sure...
Cruiserheads , as you will find are a really great group of people .

Aint that the truth!

And on the seats-

***I stand corrected** I found his old post - the brackets were fabricated for the Audi TT Roadster - year unknown...If anyone needs better pics for note taking - by all means - let me know, Ill provide any help I can!

Great thread Sarca. Your thread is one that I like to follow. It is great seeing the progress you have made to your 40 and wrenching skills.

Can you describe to me the process of getting the thermal protection that was installed on the driver's side floor pan and tranny hump? I am curious to know if I should leave it an monstraliner over it.

The matting that was originally over the DS side proved to be the largest source of rot - quite a bit pinhole rust. Temporarily we fiberglassed over the pinholes and as soon as spring comes around a welder that lives two houses down is going to help me cut it out and teach me how to weld in a new section. As far as thermal protection , I have cut those cheap harbor freight mats that lock together up and laid them in the floorboards until the new section goes in. ( Ive seen the thermal stuff over other year models tranny hump- but mine does not have it)

If youre asking how I got it out? Once I started scrapin with a '5 in 1 'g, most of it peeled right out and I used a wired brush to clean up the floorboard corners and lines. Before fiberglass, I treated the existing rust so as not to have it spread to the tranny hump which is in near perfect condition. If the harbor freight mats work, I probably will not lay anything permanent as it seems more likely to seal in moisture. I have the fitted floor mats that lay over the entire front floorboards and depending on how they hold up during muggy hot summer - Ill make a more determined judgement.

Well - here in Eastern NC, we got a shot of nice weather yesterday and I made a customary trip to Lowes and picked up shiny new hardware to work on my spare tire door. ( I keep replacing the old pieces as I go along)

I also have been leaning heavily towards rattlecan blue and decided to go with this Rustoleums Safety Blue Professional Enamel < Ive embedded the link for those of you who want to look at just the facts.

Here's how it looks on the spare door. I think it's VERY bright. I love it. The huz is the rattlecan expert - and he says it sprays on very nice and even. Guess this it!
