Well its snowing - first time here in 3 years. I had planned to finish putting the driver seat in tomorrow. Too cold for this old girl. Ive recently gotten on the idea of a front custom license plate like this
LP plate.webp

They sell for around $100 online - but surely there's someone on this forum or local that can do it cheaper. Here in NC, you are only required to have one license plate - and I think this would be a nice addition here in J%%P heavy country. Ill have to do more research.

Previous post we tried some of the pro grade Rustoleum paint. After letting it sit for the last week - Im pretty impressed, the paint does not easily scratch and has a good durable feel to it.

Went out to start the 40 before hitting a club meeting tomorrow..only to see radiator fluid under the interior heater. Looks to be a heater core issue. Sigh. Guess I'll hunt one down!

Yikes! Mines kind of cold blooded but I've never had to start it a day in advance. That's gotta be hard on the mileage.......

LoL - its not that bad! I just like sitting in it and listening to it rumble. Its a good excuse to piss off my neighbors yapyap dogs.

Here is the blue on the spare tire hinges - it is VERY bright.

Here's the plan - Ill be storing it less than half a mile away at a storage unit lot..Its well known around these redneck parts for being very lenient on use. Any given weekend youll see people with vehicles in various states of work pulled out of their respective unit hammering, painting or wrenching away.

At the unit, we'll take off all the exterior parts, including my primer gray/white cap. Replacing hardware all the way around. Sanding, sanding and more sanding for prep.

Repair fiberglass and planning on installing a headliner ( I saw someone who used a very short shag outdoor rug you could have cut to size from Lowes - much cheaper than OEM or Specter)
Replace the channels on the hardtop, including the hatch crossmember (anyone have one in decent shape??)

Cover the interior of the storage unit with plastic and use the storage unit as a spray tent!

Next will be the interior, pull out the recently installed seats remove or tape off everything and reinstall.

Sounds pretty easy....right? Did I mention this must all be done before the NCFJ show at Leith Toyota April 27th.

I like crunch time - it's like getting ready to go wheeling - you end up doing a ton of work right before you head for the trails. There's nothing like a sense of urgency to inspire work.

How is this work coming along? I know you just had puppy issues but that better not have stopped progress! Now that you have been driving around on those tires for a bit how are they? Have you done any rain driving or much highway miles now that you have the trailer? Would you "recommend them to a friend"? Thanks now get back to work on MeJane!

Great build up!

My husband and I have just saved an FJ47 off a farm here in Australia, and have started the strip down process- I claimed at as my birthday present :D I'm a lot like you- keen to learn and do a lot of the work myself, which I'm finding tricky as I have always had diesels and not petrols :D

Look forward to the updates, that blue is a wicked colour!

Cheers
Missy

Puppies? Well that obliges me to post this :D

But seriously, Ive been doing a lot of driving with the recent spring temps. Actually dont have anything of a serious need, and Im trying to take the advice of so many here to enjoy the 40. I just got my brake master cylinder which Ill probably replace after the truck show. I was going to try and paint, but the unexpected puppy debacle of 2013 has slowed the quick job Id planned.

Picked up a Scat seat from a member - still new in box. Itll be the kids seat. I was thinking of mounting it facing the rear, back to back with the drivers seat (taking out the jumpseats) Ill have to poke around here on mud first. I want to mount the seat on a custom box.

Great build up!

Thanks Missy - Id love to see pics and its encouraging to see another woman wrenching!! Sounds like a smart woman - claiming it as your own!!

I had too- looked like too much fun!
We already have a Landcruiser each (hubby has a 2002 HDJ78R V6 TD troopy and I have a very unladylike 2008 VDJ76R 4.5L V8 TD) but I'm not willing to share the old poxy one! I read your thread from start to finish last night, and have subscribed, I have a lot to learn!

I have a build started on the Australian 4WD Action forum, once we have done some more I will start here. Plenty of questions! (I got the model wrong too after a few too many beers, it's an FJ45 lol)

Well, I pulled the trigger on the hardtop weatherstrip kit from SOR and the weatherstrip for the rear hatch and doors. Ive heard great things about SOR quality. Also picked up door strikers for the front doors, theyre both pretty worn out. Ive got replacement regulators. Tomorrow Im going to order 3 point retractable belts from seatbeltsplus.com .

Car Show @ Leith is coming up quick now - and my original plan to get the paint job done in time has fallen to the wayside. We've had surprise puppies, my father in law is in town AND its crunch time at work. Needless to say on Easter Sunday I figured I could have some quiet 'me' time outside in the driveway with Jane - but apparently the rain chance has been upped to 60% chance - GAH! Guess thats the price you pay for 72 degree weather.

Its amazing, this 40 thing.
Bonus money? Ahh - more to spend on the 40 :D
Crappy day at work? Score! I get to drive the 40 home :D
Rainy day? More time to research any work I want to do..on the 40
Boring trip to the same old places - ahh but now I can look for other Landcruiser owners on the road!

New passive aggressive hobby? Parking the 40 next to any Heep in a parking lot, or next to a shiny Hummer..It makes me smile.

I totally do this too! Like.

I am really guilty of this too. :D:beer:

Also love it when I fire up the 40 while next to a Heep and they hear by big rumbling V8.....LOL

New Easter Tradition in our house - you hide your silly J**p in the mud, get it stuck and we'll pull it out for you..Here's my 40 in action!

Jane pulls a Heep out

Beautiful weather -

Got the bumperettes and rock quards back on the rear signal lights.

Put the spare tire door back on.

Replaced a side marker light lens.

Attached the hi-lift to the front bumper.

The huz made a license plate bracket for my Aussie plate..we waffled awhile on where to put it. It's longer than a U.S. plate so to put it on the side of the bumper would've blocked the tow hooks.

Replaced the door strikers on both sides.

And a little Teq bling on the grill.

My new phone attaches my pics sideways..but only when using the mud app.

Sorry, too many years living in Australia I guess. Love the build but that front ACT plate ruins it. Canberra is a toilet.

Thats so FUNNY! And its the capital? Well..Id decided I liked it because it has blue lettering - which will be a nice accent. Besides - here in the south - all of us hillbillies think EVERYWHERE else is a toliet:hillbilly:

I forgot...I also replaced windshield wiper fluid and the travel hose. I didn't test it until after I did that-and realized, it doesn't work. I went with the easiest fix first and replaced the fuse. No luck. I'll come back to it later.

I was going to work on the 40 last night but I stumbled across a bottle of Macallan 17 year Scotch...I didn't get off the couch.

What color did you end up using on your rims??? I am having mine blasted this week and I think I am going to spray them myself instead of powder coating them.

I used rustoleum gray after having mine blasted. Two years and running with no issues. A couple of coats of primer first.

I hate it when the kids leave their 17 year old scotch laying around to stumble over....
