Guys,
Bear with me here as I am a complete novice with any type of fabrication. Anyway, I was trying to replace the broken mirror heads on my side mirrors. While trying to remove the head this happened:
Basically, part of the bolt broke off on the arm. I tried to use the extractor Craftsman things to remove the broken part, but to no avail. Looks like a new arm will be about $50, which I'd rather not spend. So, I was thinking of how to attach the new head
to the arm.
What about cutting the end of the arm off where the bolt is and tapping it for a new thread? Is that possible. If so, do I just buy a tap kit or how is this done. A shop today said they'd mount the head back on the arm for $50 - but if I was going to spend that then I'd just buy a replacement and be done with it. This is going on my beater 40, so it doesn't need to be beautiful. I don't have a welder, nor would I know how to do it if I had one
Or should I just try to use a drill bit or a punch and try to drill it out?
So, can someone school me on what to do? Thank you, greatly appreciated. Regards,
Jonny
