My 1998 105 has a history of problems with the heating. The previous owner had put a tap on the coolant line under the bonnet to turn it off. I didn't like that and removed the tap and found it to work perfectly most of the time. Sometimes it would continue to heat even when you turned the temperature control right down, but that would be resolved by turning the ignition off then on. Now I have the opposite problem - no heating at all. The history of misbehaviour and suddenness of the new problem make me suspect the control board. That said, other functions like the outlet selection (feet, cabin, windscreen) work fine so it isn't completely broken. Page 3-10 of the Haynes has the "Ventilation Control ECU" just below the crash bar at the right hand end. (All this is RHD) But I've pulled the instrument cluster out and there is nothing there.
So can anyone help me with:
- Where is this control board?
- Given I need the car for a long road trip within a week, is there a way to hack the heating control, say by disconnecting the linkages and operating it manually?
- Any other suggestions what might be causing this problem?
Many thanks in advance.
