Today i noticed the PS headlight was out on my 2007 fj, and when i took it out i noticed that it did not appear to be burned out, so i tried putting it back in. When i plugged it back in it came on, so i unplugged to to install it correctly but it would not come back on. I eventually got it to come back on and I tried cleaning the connection and plugged it in and it worked fine. I even wiggled the wires around trying to make it go off but it stayed on. Now my wife leaves in it and within 5 minutes shes calling me saying its off again. Has anyone had this happen? Im gonna check and see if its getting power to the bulb when its off as soon as she gets back.

I'd swap the bulbs to see if you can get it to repeat on the DS to eliminate the bulb as the problem. Obviously, if the fault goes with the bulb, replace it.

If the DS bulb in the PS doesn't light, then you have some fun, trying to find an intermittent fault. Yes, I'd put a voltmeter on the connection to see if you can see a loss of voltage when wiggling wires, shaking the rig.

Sorry to not have more to offer, if you can verify the loss of power, its a matter of tracing back until you find 12v and replacing that segment of wiring. Good luck...

I agree with Jerry; sounds like an intermittent open in the circuit. Those can be tough to duplicate sitting still in the garage; good luck with it. A 12-volt test probe will be your friend.

It was definitely the bulb. its a real shame too because it was a PIAA blue bulb ($70 a set online). needless to say, I will not be going back with the same bulb.

Glad to hear it was relatively simple.

I've run PIAA lights on my bikes without issue. I'm sure you know not to touch it during install, it can cause premature failure getting any oil on it. Hope you have better luck with the next set of bulbs...

so i noticed yesterday that the headlight i have not replaced was now out, but when i pulled it out it did not look like it was burned out. but then i noticed that it comes on when you turn the high beams on, but then the other headlight goes off. this does not make any sense. how can something like this just start happening all of a sudden? so now when switching back and forth between bright and dim, one ise lights up and the other goes off and vice versa. has anyone heard of this?

hey man i was just looking up the same problem with my 08 fj. i have the fog lights as well, and i noticed my right headlight was out and so i messed with the switch trying to figure it out. my fog lights were working earlier today but now don't and my right headlight only comes on when the brights are on. did you ever get to the bottom of your headlight problem?

He said it was the bulb. He put in a new set of bulbs and one failed prematurely. Now, the second bulb appears to have failed also.

I can't speak for him, I can say I had a similar problem on a different vehicle and it was because I handled the bulbs with my bar fingers. Taught me an expensive lesson...

I don't own a Fj cruiser, however what you are describing might have something to do with the lighting relay or grounding issue, or both. The fog lights are probably tied into the low beam circuit. If the low beam relay goes out then the fog lights shouldn't work either. If I am wrong then what have U lost by checking it out and learning more about your ride. Good luck
