Hi

I'm trying to find out what to do with the headlamps on my -97 kzj95.

It all started when the lights got very dusty inside, so I tried to wash them.... took them of the car and flushed them, and then dried them out with a heat gun. The right one turned out nice, but I discovered that the left one had reflector that had lost it's shine.

I have aftermarked 55w Xenon:idea: kits installed, works great but oncoming traffic gets a bit disturbed by this.

So now I'm wondering what to do. New factory headligts from Toyota is made of pure gold and diamonds, at least they should be looking at the price tag.

I have found out that from about 7/99 the lights were upgraded with clear glass and a different reflector type. I thought maybe these lights wouldn't disturb people as much as the "old" type, but I don't know. But I don't know if they will fit my -97, or if they are different. Anyone know?

Also, I have electric factory hight adjustment, all the aftermarked headlamps I have found doesn't have electric adjustment. Does anyone know if it's possible to separate the glass from the headlamp unit? The glass glued in addition to the clips. I'm thinking of changing the reflector...

And I also wonder if the factory height adjustment from the old lights is possible to mount in the new ones? That will at least involve removing the glass.

And finally, i have been looking at aftermarked lights, like "angel eyes", and probably projector lights would be the best as I'd like to keep the xenon kit. But honestly... I think many of these lights look a bit... well... you know, maybe not the best choise to go along with mud tires and a lift kit. Maybe more low profile neon rice racer style if you get the idea.

So summed up here:
  • Will 8/99 and newer headlights fit 96-99 models?
  • Which would be best, when using (illegal) hi power bixenon kits?
  • Possible to separate glass from headlamp unit?
  • Possible to mount factory electric hight adjustment in new aftermarked lights without electric adjustment?
  • Any nice projector lamps available that would look OK?
Thank you for all input!

KZJ95 Headlights

Hi Stefan,

Where are you? Is your Prado RHD?

Stefan,

All I had to do was look at the photo. Sorry I can't help you. I just bought a 96 RHD and am replacing the headlights with LHD ones. Mine are aftermarket coming out of Europe somewhere. They are about $300 Can for the pair which is half as much as OEM's.

Cheers

Keith

I live in Norway. Still haven't figured out what route to go with the lights....

I could try to heat one headlight with a heat gun and try to pry off the glass, but I'm terrified to break the glass. If I do, I'm screwed.

Good luck with your new KZJ!

you'll be fine using the clear multi-reflector headlamps. they will fit the earlier LC95s

Hey Keith,

Do you have a brand or website for the LHD lights your using? Trying to do that upgrade to my 96 KZJ95

Hey Keith,

What brand did you go with for these? Do you happen to have a part number? How are you liking them? Looking at doing the same upgrade on my 96 KZJ95

These LHD p/n's from Megazip(dot)net should help:

Glass Lens (1996-1999): RH -- 81110-60800 , LH -- 81150-60620
Plastic Lens (1999-2002): RH -- 81110-6A130, LH -- 81150-60850

Search with these numbers, DEPO makes quality ones.

Yes I have always used DEPO headlight units. Not OEM quality but seem to be a good alternative in LHD.
