Haha! Actually it was raining last week. Our big rains are usually in January/February, and last January was a doozy, with flash floods, mudslides, and washed out roads. I got stuck in Ventura for a night because the road up to Ojai was a river.

But you are right, it doesn't rain that often.

Gotcha. So how are you covering the truck up while it has no roof? Just tarps or something more elaborate?

AND DONE!

Apart from grinding, filler, primer, paint...

The four additional brackets help to stiffen the bent up edge above the windshield, and will also get rivnuts installed that will tie into the roof assembly.

I started the rust repair December 27th, 2022, and finished (hopefully) today, 383 days later!

I think there is less filler on the entire roof now than there was on the previous d-pillar 'repair.'

Now I can do fun things! Like my roof tent, rear quarter gull wing, turbo, exhaust, etc...

Windshield is back in! I can understand why some glass shops don't want to mess with these. It is time consuming and terrifying.

I also installed more rivnuts for tying in to the roof structure.

I didn't shape the upper corners perfectly, so there are gaps. These areas will need to be revisited when the windshield is pulled again for stripping and painting of the whole truck. But it will work for now for scooting around town, when it isn't raining. We are actually having some rain @GLTHFJ60!

It makes sense that you have a garage. I thought you were doing those whole project without a garage for a while, lol

Nice work, what paint are you using for top coat of the repaired areas?

And just like that, it's summertime.

I cleaned the cruiser inside and out, and reassembled what little of the interior I have left.
And then went for a drive.

I also installed the roof weather strip.

When I put the rear hatch on I found another issue that will need to be fixed before paint. Doh!

Dude, that window is superb work! Super impressed!

Is the DXF file for the laser cutting available?

I went old school and simply traced the glass. Once the exterior of the aluminum panel was cut, I ran my calipers around the outer edge at fixed distances to score the panel where I would cutout the center.

It wouldn't be difficult for me to measure the glass and translate the design into solidworks. Eventually...

Super thanks!

Now we're cooking with gas!
As my grandmother used to say, according to my mother, anyway.

I got the idea from a DIY tutorial for a Tacoma rooftop tent. He also has plans for some of the components he fabricated, but my application is slightly different, slightly...
I may use his tent pattern though.

Awesome work on the roof top tent. You might get more rise out of those struts if you placed them farther forward
Thanks!

Right now, the top handle is about as high as I can reach while standing on the rear bumper. I'll need to experiment with a pull strap of some sort if I want to go higher (and I do).

I made a hard mount for the spare tire. It mounts to one of the roof extrusions, the back seat upper bracket (chopped and reused), and one of the coat rack (?) mounts.
I wanted the tire up out of the way so I can use my air mattress without removing the spare. When all is said and done, I could potentially sleep four in this thing...
