Wow

Gutters gutted. Sunroof mounts removed. This thing is a layered cake. Or a rotten onion...

Wow @BrickRunner! I’m glad more people are tackling this job.

That’s some serious rot though, way worse than what I tackled on mine. Excited to see the progress! Good luck!
Thanks, I'm gonna need it! Your "How to" has been a big help and inspiration, although my end result is going to be slightly different...
Slightly...

Starting with the easy stuff and building up some momentum.

The 60 series has three sets of these mounting pads. Two are used for the standard roof supports and are nutted. The high roof has its own brackets that are welded on above for the single support bar and sunroof mounting. The third set is a mystery.

So I drilled the unused set out for rivnuts for a installing a third support. I also filled in the holes that were for attaching the rear speakers. Because OCD.

Then I got to work on the right hand side, grinding down the spot weld remains and cutting out the rusty bits.

Wow…some fast work and looks great. Curious if you’re gonna go back with the high roof setup or the lower profile
Sourcing a decent high roof skin would be a pain, but I rather like the headroom and space it provides. A standard roof would definitely be easier to get, but I would lose the headroom and specialness. Also, both designs contain moisture traps and are rust prone so...

...neither!
